Mail Art w/Household Objects (Edited)

I've been having fun using "ordinary household or office" objects as tools for decorating envelopes. In a way, they become "stamps." Who needs fancy background tools when you have an ink pad & a whole household of stamps?! For example, you can take a small piece of regular 'ole paper and scrunch it up like you are going to throw it away. Now tap one side of it on your ink pad and then on your envelope. Do this a few times, and you now have an instant fun background. Try different color ink pads. Experiment with different materials to see what you get (foil, plastic wrap, a baggie, wax paper, etc.). You may be surprised what ordinary objects can become fun tools for mail art.

For my sample shown above, I used the following items: a scrunched up plastic Ziploc baggie, a wadded up piece of paper from my art room trash can, the edge of a junk mail credit card, a binder clip stamped once and then again cross wise (the vertical and horizontal lines), the bottom of a pump hand cream dispenser (the circles), and the back of a brad (tiny circles).

Feel free to stop there, or if you would like to add other embellishments (glitter glue, collaged pictures, stamped images, sayings, etc.), you may do so (it is not required for the ratings). One thing I just thought of is to create an address box with one of the objects. Oh the possibilities, eh?

Fine Details

• You will have 2 partners
• You are to use a minimum of 5 household items as stamps to make a mail art envelope for each partner. Feel free to use more if you wish.
• Please put a card or letter inside and show your partner which objects made which designs (stamp an image of the object and then beside it, write what it is). Please also make sure to put the swap name, and your Swap-bot user ID.
• The envelopes should be no smaller than the minimum allowed by United States Postal Service: 5” x 3 1/2” (12.7cm x 8.9cm). Other than that, you can make them as large as you want to.
