Start collecting strings to participate in this swap! You will need a good amount of strings or strips of fabric. If you don't have strings you can cut your own strips (1" - 1.5" strips work well). These blocks are a great way to use up all sorts of scrap fabric.

Fabric should be clean and new of good quality when it is sewn into the crumb block. It is SENDERS CHOICE for the colors. If using scraps to make your blocks please make sure they are new scraps and not "attic fresh" or musty smelling. Measure your blocks before sending them and make sure they measure 8.5" square.

All straight strips, or are some un-straight (angled) strips acceptable? Bonnie's tutorial shows some that are not straight at the end, and I love that look, but can see that not everyone would.

@SandiH - the strips don't have to be cut perfectly. Your seams should be straight to create a straight line with your strips. Any ragged edges will be hidden in the seams. As long as the angles follow the original lines that you drew the blocks should fit together just fine when you get all of them from your partners.

Katie, is this going to be scrappy or color choices of your assigned partners?

QuiltedMagnolia 06/14/2012 #

@IknitnQult2 Scrappy! Senders choice for the colors, use what you have in your stash. Only requirement is the fabric foundation should be a cream muslin.

Katie, The center strip [the uncovered light cream muslin] is 2" wide correct? And my strips are 1.5"? M>

QuiltedMagnolia 07/ 1/2012 #

@reetle1 - follow the directions in Bonnie's tutorial - the center strip should begin as 2" wide but after you sew strips on either side it will be 1.5". The other strips can be varying widths.

I had some issues doing test blocks and found my overall block was too small when I started with 8.5" of foundation fabric so I'm going to test out and see how it goes starting bigger and trimming down to size if I can mark my reference points correctly.

Do a test block and see how the first one turns out.

Gotcha, thanks! I was marking my center uncovered strips and got all turned around...lol.

Sorry. My blocks were sent a few weeks ago. Just never marked as sent on the site until today. My daughters soccer team made it to nationals and at the last minute I joined the group in south carolina. Then we went right to denmark for another tournament. Got home and spent a long weekend in the city. So nice to finally be home today and open all my packages from you all!
