Finding Something Lost

I lost a favorite 45 record of mine, it was even vintage at the time (and this was the 80's) it was a 45 of Paul Revere and the Raiders with the songs "Sharon" and "Like Long Hair." I had one of those big floor consoles my brother had used before they moved it into my room with the 8-track and turntable and Hi-Fidelity stereo. I really loved that thing and I love that record too! I think that is why I still love collecting the little 45 adapters.

I lost my grandfathers pocket watch. He had been a bus driver in Los Angeles after WWII. It wasn't expensive and he'd chosen it purposely so that no one would mug him for it.

I loved it. There was a worn leather case that allowed it to be worn on a belt. My father gave it to me when I was eight. I lost it... in my room. But it was never found again. The dial had glow in the dark dots that marked the placement of the numbers and the hands had the same so that you could read the time in the dark.

He'd died when I was very young and holding the watch made me feel closer to him.

This is weird, but I lost the dress and tear to my favorite doll. I'm not sure what happened to them, but I still have the doll and my Mom made her a flannel night gown that she now wears. Her hair is all gone but that doesn't matter, but her dress and/or tear I'd love to find- Her name when they sold her was little Miss No Name and they marketed her as an orphan doll that only YOU could save...Her dress was burlap with patches and her tear stuck to her face.....Man, I love(d) that doll.

I didn't really lose mine. . . But I did lose track of it. When I was a child we spent many summers and holidays in a big old farm house in the middle of a corn field in Iowa visiting my grandparents. In the stairwell my grandma had a mass produced painting of two children and a puppy standing in an alley. They had the biggest saddest eyes I have ever seen, even the puppy. I stared at that picture every time I visited. I wanted to know why they were so sad. When I grew up. My grandma died when I was eight and I was too young to think about asking for the picture. Now that I am an adult, I wish I had. I have since found out that the artist was Margaret Keane. I got a sad eyed girl picture from eBay. I love big eyed art.

I lost the most beautiful bracelet I've ever owned. It was a Victorian sterling silver serpent bangle with the most amazing detail and raised pattern on each snake head. I wore it every day as I loved it so much. I can still see it now but wish I had a photo. I bought it from my local flea market when I was sixteen for £25, which was quite a bit of cash for me at the time. Not long after I first moved to Brighton I'd gone back to my parents for a few days and in the rush to catch the train home left my make up and jewellery behind so my parents posted it to me via Royal Mail Special Delivery. I thought it would be safe as it's guaranteed to arrive the next day and has to be signed for. Unfortunately not. I never got the package despite waiting for the postie to ring the buzzer from 6.30am in the morning as I didn't want to miss it. The postie said he'd rung the buzzer and someone came down and signed for it. Royal Mail were not very helpful but did give me the name of the person who signed for it. I'd never heard of them and there were only four other flats in my building. After investigating the matter myself I found out that the person who signed for the package was squatting in the house next door but by the time I found out they'd moved on and it was lost. There was about £200 worth of jewellery, accessories and make-up in that package. I should have claimed compensation but Dad persuaded me not to as he didn't want the postie to get into trouble. I still look on ebay to see if one like it turns up but I've never seen one as nice. As you can tell by my rant I'm still upset about losing the bracelet. Now I've had much more experience with the postal system I wish I'd had the sense to claim compensation whether it got the postie into trouble or not, even though it would not have got me the bracelet back.

Thank you for sharing that with us, I am very sorry, it is difficult to lose OOAK jewelry or anything like that. I lost my Vampire the Masquerade Anhk, it fell in between the sink base and the wall in our old apartment and must have slipped further down into the wall as I even cut out the back panel from inside the wooden sink cabinet, it was gone, a friend gave it to me especially, and I could have cried that necklace is a hard one to find.
