"All Hallow’s Read is a Hallowe’en tradition. It’s simply that in the week of Hallowe’en, or on the night itself, you give someone a scary book."

All Hallow's Read is a new book-swapping tradition started by author Neil Gaiman. Here is more info about All Hallow's Read. (There are some really cute downloadable bookmarks and things on that site!)

For this swap we will be swapping one scary book in time for Halloween! Any book will do, so long as it is scary. It can be new or used, as long as it is in good condition. Books are sender's choice.

Last year when I hosted this swap, some swappers purchased a book from a website and had it sent directly to their partner. I'd like to point out the Book Depository has free worldwide shipping. This is just a helpful tip, not a requirement! If you decide to order a book from a website to be shipped to your partner, please let your partner know to look out for it!

This is an international swap. All books should be in English. No unrated swappers. No recent (within the last three months) unexplained 1 or 3 ratings. Please have a filled-out profile. I will be going through profiles to prevent flakers. Please let me know if you have any questions.

@KSENiA It's up to you! The age level of the book doesn't matter, so long as the intention of the book is to be scary.

Any chance of a USA-only version? This is awesome but international postage on books can be... SCARY.

@Mrrranda I understand completely. Last year I hosted this is a USA-only swap and I felt guilty about leaving out the rest of the world. I realize that this year I'm alienating people who are wary of international shipping, but I am not interested in hosting two swaps that are exactly the same. So my recommendation is to join @BlackSheepSolo s Creepy Reading swap, which is similar and USA-only.

Will there be a problem with language with an international swap? Or are all books suppose to be in English?

@institches I knew I forgot something! Yes, the books should be in English. Silly me for thinking that should be a given. I will add it into the description and e-mail everyone.

If there's anyone who wants to participate that doesn't have easy access to English books, I'd be happy to receive in any European language. I love that sort of stuff, and am sad when people want to swap and can't because of a language barrier.

@HappyCrafter That's kind of you! I agree that it's sad when people want to swap but can't because of a language barrier. But since not everyone can read in every language, there have to be certain limitations for this sort of swap.

@leirali I can't read in every language either, but i like to try. I wasn't suggesting opening it to every language for everyone, but if there was one person who was stuck, I would definitely help them out!

It just occurred to me that pairing is automatic, so a non-english swapper who specifically needed me would have to do a private swap running parallel to this one. Bummer.
