Description:

The first one was so fun that we're doing it again!

I love playing with tiny art, and I love shrines.

I think of shrines as being anything dedicated to a positive idea, whether embodied in a religious icon or not. So, I make a lot of little shrines to things like 'creativity' and 'peace' without any religious symbolism. Religious images are certainly welcome too, but they aren't necessary.

My samples use new bottle caps, which you may be able to buy from a "brew your own" place, but (clean) used caps, both plastic and metal, are welcome too.

These are really quick and fun to make, so I'm expanding the swap a little from the first time: we will be sending two bottle cap shrines each to two partners, for a total of four bottle caps.

After receiving your shrines, feel free to come back and post a picture of what you received and tell us what you decided to do with them. For example, you may want to glue a magnet or pin to the back, or add them to another piece of art.

I will be banning anyone with less then a 4.5 rating and everyone with multiple no-sends.

I have to travel for work starting the 10th...I'll see how things look when I come back. I'd love to sign up for this one, too. The first one was fun!

Thanks for doing another one of these swaps, I am having so much fun making them. :-)

I really would like to try this, but am unsure on how, usually looking at pictures helps, but this time, I'm not quite getting it. would you mind telling me how you make them, like give a mini tutorial to a dummy like me? lol susi

Susi and I have been talking by Swap-Bot messages, but if anyone else has some thoughts on how they made or are making their shrines, please feel free to pass on tips.

I sent mine to southernXpacific and Salvia today.

I have found that a circle punch sure comes in handy for cutting out an image to put in the center. I also really like Diamond Glaze for attaching the small beads and embellishments.

Can it be any kind of bottle cap or are we picturing only the kind shown in the above photo? I have a few of those kinds but I have also made a couple shrines using Snapple bottle caps which are a little bigger and don't have the rigid rim as those pictures above. Is this OK?

Thanks!

Head in the Clouds: Any kind of cap is fine. Have fun!

Hi Snarglebean & OrcaSong Look out in about a week as your shrines are on there way from NeW Zealand.

snarglebean 02/12/2007 #

Thanks, Angel Faery Kathleen! I have always wanted to visit New Zealand. Maybe when I make my next million selling bottle cap shrines.... hehe. :)

Yooper and Head in the Clouds, yours are going out tomorrow! I hope you like them. I tried to do one "artsy" and one "funny". You'll see when they arrive!

Yari, can you please leave me a message, I can`t find your swapbotname.

snarglebean 02/14/2007 #

Angel Faery Kathleen, I received yours today! They are beautiful! I have to ask, what did you use to drill the holes in the top of the bottle caps so jump rings would fit?

The hanging one is in my bedroom on a bulletin board, and the magnet is going on a file cabinet at school. All my students (K-5) will be so amazed! Come to think of it, I think I'm going to do this craft with some of them. One boy in particular I know will thoroughly enjoy smashing them flat with a hammer!

Thank you again, your work is beautiful!
