ghostknitter, could you list some things besides the knitpicks stuff? i order all of my yarns from knitpicks, and while i have (once in a blue moon) gotten them in a couple of days, usually, it takes 2 to 3 weeks for them to arrive at my house. added to the fact that someone would then have to box them up and mail them to you, it seems like it may be impossible to get them out in time. also, i would like to be able to send something a little bit more personal to my partner, so would it be okay for you to write down a couple of other things? if you don't have any other interests than knitting, what about some pretty stitch markers, a case for needles, etc...

KarlaKC 01/30/2007 #

Rating is required at 4.5 or higher and yet I see at least 3 with ratings below that requirement and some of those in the 4 + ratings have more than 3 "not received". How many swaps does one have to have a Rating of 1 before the person is removed from future swaps? What I'm saying is, I can understand maybe one or two partners saying they hadn't received, but 5 is a bit too many isn't it? Perhaps there's been personal contact between the coordinator and swapper with the multiple no-sends/received and there's a good excuse. Leaves me leery though to see any swapper with more than two "1" ratings. This sounds like a great swap and obviously lots of us like the idea considering how many of signed up. But I don't want any of us having to wonder if we're going to be partnered with someone who is taking advantage. The 4.5 rating requirement is a great way to start. But I hope the coordinator will enforce it,and also consider those with multiple no-sends in their ratings. One swapper has two swaps rated. One is rated 1. The other is 5. Hmmm...50/50 odds of her partner getting anything....

KarlaKC 01/30/2007 #

My likes:

  1. Stationery and notecards.
  2. Fun pens or pencils.
  3. Stickers (ladybugs, dragonflies, green frogs, rainbows, waterfalls, snowflakes, sheep, Hello Kitty, Suzy Zoo, girly...)
  4. Handmade envelopes or any handmade paper craft you make.
  5. Origami paper.
  6. Crochet or Knitting magazines.
  7. Yarn.
  8. Beads or buttons.
  9. Postcard from you.
  10. New or used postage stamps. I especially like snowflakes, LOVE, flowers, and just overall pretty stamps.
lilylemon 01/30/2007 #

Hey, KarlaKC, I think swap coordinators usually go through and ban swappers who don't meet the minimum ratings at the last moment. Swap-bot lets the coordinators go through, ban bad swappers, and then click "assign partners." I'm coordinating a swap, and I'm thinking it would be easiest to go through at the last minute and take care of it, as opposed to doing it every time a new swapper joins. I don't know if that makes sense or not!:)

I'd like to inquire about the $25 spending limit. Just because the limit is $25, does that mean you have to spend that much? I'm a thrifter/bargain shopper/treasure hunter so to speak. I just wanted to know if the items had to be brand spankin', store-bought new or could we include things we find second-hand/gently used/or handmade in our swap packages? I mean new stuff is cool, but I get a rush from finding a new pair of monkey socks for 50 cents at thrift store.

ElizabethObviously 02/ 1/2007 #

Dawn- no you do NOT have to spend $25 total. That is a limit on the price of the items on YOUR list. you can not put items on there that are super expensive. You only send 5 items from the persons list. so if you choose 5 items and your total is only $10 that is fine.

ALSO i plan on deleting the low feedback users. i do not want users to be nervous about signing up because of 1 or 2 people. I so not want those 1 or 2 people to ruin it for others. If you are one of those with low feedback i am sorry for having to ban you. Please remember I will be doing this type AGAIN so if youre feedback is higher then, feel free to sign up!

Hi Jolley: Your package is all ready and will be mailed out on Monday. Please note that it will take a while to get to you because I think Canada Post sends all international mail to a sorting station in Australia first! Lol. Tassy

WillowTree21 02/ 5/2007 #

Question! Can I send more than just the 5 items? I mean, she has a few items that are way under 5 dollars. So this means I could get like 6 items or 7. Let me know please.

Rebecca aka Willow Tree

TerryF 02/ 5/2007 #

Willow Tree: From my experience, it is NEVER a problem to send more! I actually sent my partner about 10 items. It just might get you a heart rating too! Just don't be disappointed if you only get 5, since that's all that is required for this swap.

Grr..The United States postal systems makes me mad! I mailed my package to goodmorninglove in Singapore on February 3. I just checked the tracking status. It just left O'Hara airport in Chicago on the 10th! Chicago is only twelve hours from North Dakota!!! What is going on??? Sharon (goodmorninglove), your package is on it's way. I hope that it doesn't get held by customs or anything. I filled out all the paperwork for it.

Hey Christen (medesign),

I sent out your package today. It's coming from Michigan, so it might take a little while.

Hope you like it!

I recieved my package from Butterfly Kisses today and it is AMAZING! Everything is perfect :) Now that I've read the comments, I'm curious as to which item you had trouble finding?

butterflykisses 02/15/2007 #

dimanche - believe it or not, it was the chocolate bars! I had to drive 25 miles away to the next town over to pick them up at a Walgreens store! Actually, I had to get online just to figure out where to buy the things! LOL

Plus side to the deal, I actually bought a smaller bar for myself and fell in love with the dark chocolate ones! The only downside, if I want another one I'll have to drive 25 miles to get one!

I'm really happy you enjoyed the package! I had a hard time telling myself to stop buying stuff to put in there but I think I learned my lesson when it was time to ship it off! I had alot of fun buying for you and I would love to have you as a partner again!

lilylemon 02/16/2007 #

Thank you, Kristina, for the wonderful package of goodies I received on Saturday! Yarn, stationery, buttons, beads, postage stamps, and origami paper! The origami paper just made my day. My 5 year old daughter and I folded 10 things and there is now only 2 sheets of paper left! haha! It was a hit! I loved everything and thank you so much!

ANISA,I'm running behind, but will be mailing your package today or Monday. I have to be sure to wrap something very carefully so that it won't break ... ;-) I haven't forgotten you!

user3157 03/ 2/2007 #

user960 03/ 2/2007 #

Got my package today from Cassandra, and it is SUPER! :D Anyone who sends me spinning fiber is awesome, and yes, that is, indeed, spinning fiber ... and I'm going to have tons of fun dyeing it all for me, since I have a policy that I have to make something for myself out of gifts. ;) There was also a ton of tea, rubber stamps, and pretty beads in a nice little gift bag ... Thank you so much! I hope everybody gets packages as nice as this. :D I love it all!

sheaux 03/ 3/2007 #

JeweledClaws, I got your package about a week ago (I am sorry I just haven't been on) and loved it. And then I used the box to mail to my partner since you had decorated it so pretty!

user960 03/ 6/2007 #

Joy: Yay, I'm glad you liked my package and that it got there! :D

This was a fun swap. Maybe we should do another ... ;)

user3157 03/ 6/2007 #

is there a lot of people that still have not received anything? I havent gotten anything... How long do I wait before I leave a rating?? I want to be fair at least... What a bummer!

devilyn 03/ 6/2007 #

i haven't got anything yet, i don't know who was meant to be sending me something though

KarlaKC 03/ 6/2007 #

Anisa, it is on its way to you, Priority Mail! Enjoy it! It was fun putting together. :)

WillowTree21 03/ 6/2007 #

I haven't received anything yet, but I have it on my calendar to rate the person sending to me on March 13. This allows 14 days travel time from the send by date, not including Sundays.

VelveteenRabbit 03/ 7/2007 #

Yeah, I think two weeks is reasonable. You may also want to contact your partner before leaving a 1 rating, to find out if she may have just sent it a little late or something. I'm still waiting for mine but won't leave a rating just yet.

KarlaKC 03/ 8/2007 #

I sent what I thought was a nice package according to my partner's request, and she rates me 3 but doesn't say why...bummer. It was $10 to send, too! Certainly puts a damper on sending...I won't know if what I think is a great swap is going to be received as a great swap...

Oh well, maybe she'll email me to let me know. I've emailed her offering to make it right if there's something I can correct for her...

bummer

TerryF 03/ 9/2007 #

KarlaKC, that's so rude of her not to explain or reply to your email. And not fair if you sent it on time and did your best to meet the swap requirements. A lot of the items on people's lists were open to such wide interpretation, and you are not supposed to rate based on personal taste anyway.

I good fairied someone (a lovely girl, actually)for this swap and had trouble because a lot of the items I couldn't get --- not here in Canada anyway --- for under $5 (that's almost $6 Cdn). I am just happy that she can't rate me! And this after sending way more than $25 worth.

While I enjoyed doing this swap for my assigned partner, I am not sure I would try this one again (with apologies to Elizabeth4510 because it WAS a great idea for a swap, just not so great in execution, which is certainly not her fsult!).

I am also still waiting for mine..

T.

WillowTree21 03/ 9/2007 #

Leeeeeeeeeee???????

I just stared at everything over and over! So many cherries! And shiny bottle caps (my first, other than one I got in a matchbox)! And brads!!!! many many many Speachless! <3 heart :)

On another note, I did like this swap. So much so, that all I hear from my mother is how she needs so many things to craft with. She is a new crafter. Thus, because of this swap, I am having a mini wish list swap with her to help her buld her stock! I want her to enjoy crafts, I know in return there will be something, but that's not where my heart is, it's in knowing she is smiling! Thank you for the swap, the idea and the learning experience, pretaining to the "do's and "don'ts" of swapping. :) If it's ok, I might just hold a WLS swap like this one! Or you can elizabeth! :)

I truely hope everyone gets their swap in! Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you!

Katrynka 03/ 9/2007 #

Dear Willow Tree, I am so glad that I made you happy. I had great plans, and started shopping early; but then I got overwhelmed by various things. Suddenly I realized that I was past the date, and my work schedule does not allow mailing 3 days of the week, so then I was REALLY screwed! I was very lucky that Joann's sales happened to coincide with a lot of the things you like!

I wasn't really sure what you meant by bottle caps, but they looked cute, so I figured you could always pass them on if they were not what you meant!

Lee

WillowTree21 03/ 9/2007 #

You hit bottle caps right on the head! I have been wanting some to use in projects but never would get any for myself. It's always like that though, I buy for everyone else and leave myself to last or I put it back when I'm at the register!:D Really though, you did great! The world would be a great place if we weren't all human! What I mean is because we are human, there are things out of our control! I understand fully, I can't control my health! Don't we loveeeee sales! Woohoo!

KarlaKC 03/12/2007 #

Tassy, thank you for your response. I was late in sending (6 business days) so yes, Anisa's rating of 3 is TECHNICALLY correct. She did go back and comment on my rating, indicating that it was late, but then goes on to elaborate of how I sent a bath sponge that was "brown with age" or something to those words. I did not send anything brown with age as the bath items I sent to her were brand new. The sponge was white on one side, blue on the other when I sent it. I also sent a very nice tea cup and saucer. But as I think about it, perhaps she didn't want such a fine tea cup and saucer (and I mean that sincerely, not in a derogatory way) because she did indicate in her wish list that she would enjoy and tea or coffee cup...perhaps she would have liked something more...rustic. Perhaps she didn't like the separate box within the shipping box that I packaged it in to help protect it because it had my son's scribbling all over it... I don't know. I found her wish list short and vague here in the forum and I did my best to send her things from her wish list. Obviously my efforts were not appreciated, and she must not have liked anything I sent to her, because I still have not received a "thank you" from her. She never acknowledged that she received it, but only sent off a quick rating when she received it two days after I mailed it.

Like you, I'm not so sure I'd do this again. I received a lovely package from the girl given my name. Perhaps I tried too hard in sending nice things to my partner.

Hey, if you don't receive anything from your partner in a week or two, let me know! I'll send you a package to make up for hers. I hope she comes through for you, though. Better she send late, than not at all, huh? :)

user3157 03/12/2007 #

ok, i still have not recd anything... I even sent a nice little email, but never got a response. why even mark it sent, if it has not been? I was real excited about this swap, and my list was not anything expensive, hard to find, difficult to interpret... it really infuriates me. anyone else still waiting? well, i wlll rate her this week, not sure that does any good anyway, because they still participate in the swaps, and they still get away with not sending anything!! That sucks!!

TerryF 03/12/2007 #

KarlaKC: I think that some people won't be happy no matter what you do. It's up to you, but, were I in your shoes, I would certainly put a counter-explanation in my profile for everyone to see. Take care - T.

TerryF 03/12/2007 #

omigshim: Don't give up yet. I am still waiting for mine too but I usually don't give up until 4 weeks have gone by. Sometimes the mail is just too darn slow.

I can tell you that, as a host of several swaps, I definitely check profiles and ratings. A friend of mine who also hosts is doing the same. We have both started keeping lists of known flakers. Automatic ban if any of these people try to join our swaps. So there are consequences for not sending. Which is why it is so important to rate people. (And sometimes giving someone a 1 will get a really quick response from them, especially if they really do care!) Good luck. T.

user960 03/13/2007 #

It sucks that so many people are having negative experiences with this swap -- although that's really just one of the dangers of Swapbot, since it's so easy to join and not so easy to screen people. I really loved the idea of this swap, though.

There is an option on Swapbot for having private swaps (vs. public swaps that everyone can sign up for), though, so if we wanted to do it again, we could make it private and email the sign-up password and swap URL only to people who sent something for the last swap.

Would anyone be interested in something like that? :D

brbbritt 03/13/2007 #

Still waiting on mine.....

TerryF 03/13/2007 #

JeweledClaws: I would be interested, as long as we have plenty of time to send...April is starting to really fill up for me!

TerryF 03/13/2007 #

KarlaKC: Thanks for offering to be my swap fairy! My partner is sending from Singapore so I think I will give it some more time. T.

KarlaKC 03/14/2007 #

You're welcome, Tassy! Yes, coming from Singapore will take a little extra time. I'm sure it'll arrive for you! Let us know when it does! :)

Hugs!

user960 03/14/2007 #

Yeah, the send-date should be fairly well in the future if we do another mini wishlist swap ... I hate having to rush. ;D

dimanche 03/14/2007 #

JeweledClaws, I would be interested! I loved this swap!

However, I never found out if my prtner (drewzel) received her package...

user3157 03/15/2007 #

I would be interested too! I had fun putting together stuff for my partner. Count me in!

Craftycakes 03/15/2007 #

I would also be interested in a private swap. I always feel like I'm taking a risk with the public swap-bot swaps.

VelveteenRabbit 03/15/2007 #

I'm starting to lean toward the private swap idea, too. I didn't get anything for this one yet......... (sigh)

alwaysjoy 03/18/2007 #

I can angel a person or two if anyone hasn't recieved. Please contact me though and don't just leave it here (I sometimes forget to check older swaps)

brbbritt 03/19/2007 #

I would love to do a private swap also. Have not received anything yet either.....

VelveteenRabbit 03/19/2007 #

I got my package today from Australia... Drewzel... WOW!!!!!!! Can you feel the hug I'm sending your way right now?? :) Every single little item is so perfect. Thank you! xox

user960 03/19/2007 #

All right, I've created a private Mini Wishlist swap. :D If you happen to see this message and don't get an invite to the swap, I may have missed inviting you -- private message me for the swap URL and the password!

user255 03/20/2007 #

It's almost been a month and I haven't heard anything from my partner. I hope it's not because she didn't like it. :(

TerryF 03/21/2007 #

Sheaux, thanks so much for the great package of goodies! I have posted a pic. T.
