Writing an introductory letter can be boring. Writing vignettes (only a paragraph, perhaps intense, perhaps playful) is creative and fun -- and it's easy if it's about something that happened to you. For this swap write five vignettes, just little incidents that span your life. I suggest -- but you can make up your own list -- 1 - something from childhood (maybe about a pet, sibling, first experience of something) 2 - something about where you lived as a child (the town, your neighbors, your room) 3 - something about high school (first boyfriend, favorite teacher, embarassing moment, accomplishment) 4 - something about your ambitions (want to be an astronaut, to travel the world, study science or art, want to publish a book) 5 - something about where you are today (the place, the emotions, the frustrations, the people in your life) Those are broad ideas but others might fit you better. Don't write fiction. Write as vividly as you can about real things you remember or think or feel. Not at all difficult for someone who has basically said she wants to be a writer and joined a writers' group. Preferably write on the computer and print it out and send it to your partners --- (2) partners, why spend all that time just to write to one person? This is international because the group is. You'll have three weeks but you don't have to wait to start, you can start writing as soon as you join the group. |
