International!!

Newbies welcome!!

Quotecard Postcard is a monthly postcard swap held to share a little zinger of wisdom/humour/etc with your partners. This is a pretty basic postcard swap. The only catch is that it MUST contain one of your favorite quotes. You can either incorporate this into the design of your postcard if you prefer handmade... or if you use a purchased or found postcard, you must include this quote on the back of the card.

Please say where the quote is from or give the credit where it's due. Do not forget to also include the swap name and your user name on the card!

You will send out 3 of these cards one to each partner possibly across the globe. They should be postmarked! Please DO NOT send in an envelope.

I will ban if I see multiple no-sends or an incomplete profile.

Happy swapping to all! Contact me with any questions!

I have taken over this series at the request of @nicole who has been running it for over a year but is now going to be very busy with a new project. I hope I can be as good a host as she has been - thanks, nicole, and good luck!

can i ask to get state map postcards if possible? i'm trying to make 2 books of state map postcards for a learning experience for kiara.

There is no problem with asking, but remember that your partners may not all be from the US. In general, I don't think expressing preferences is a problem as long as you don't EXPECT your partners to meet them.

Many swappers will not even read the comments here. Personally, I look at my partners' profiles for ideas of themes they might like, but I don't think to look in the comments for this type of swap. I probably will from now on, though. :-)

I love postcards of Moomin the hippo by the artist- Tove Jansson. Any illustrations on cats and dogs. Especially the artist Theophile Steinlen.

Remember that in Quotecard Postcard the card send is completely sender's choice! The "meat" of this swap is more about the quote that is sent than the card itself!!

(Of course... cool cards are great to receive, but requests for specific cards will be 99% likely to not be met.)

Thanks for pointing that out, nicole! There are a lot of postcard swaps around, but this series is for Quotecards. :-)

Since this is my first Quotecard swap, can you post any good quote links?

spinjenny 09/ 8/2008 #

Don't forget that the swap asks for your favourite quotes. They can be newly discovered favourites, but also old friends. This should be a fun, low-pressure swap, so don't feel you have to do a lot of research unless you want to do that. I have a Notepad file in which I save quotations that I like, so I don't usually need to search for them for my Quotecards, but when I want quotes on a particular theme, I put:

[theme keywords] quote OR quotation

into a search engine. I get links to some general quotation sites but also ones which only have quotes on that theme, which often have many more than the general sites.

Some general ones:

The Quote Garden

Think exist

Quotations Book

Quotations Home Page

Quoteland

The Quotations Page

The Quotations Archive

I am very excited to be a part of this swap. I put quotes on everything from billing statements at work to letters, even with magnetic letters on the frig. The only thing I would ask is IF my partners are international and they sent a quote or proverb in their language, if they could send the translation OR at least a hint of what it might be...

Also to blue crayons, if you can send me your mailing address I would be more than happy to send you a postcard from Kodiak, Alaska for your project...

I'm with AynE - I put quotes on everything - I love this swap already!

spinjenny 09/15/2008 #

Ayn, that's a good point. You are all very welcome to us quotes in languages other than English, but please do then include a translation for your partner.

spinjenny 09/15/2008 #

I have created the next swap in the series, Quotecard Postcard #17!. I hope you will all join that one too.

Jenny Wren, you made my heart so happy...one of my send to partners is just a stone's throw up the road from where I grew up...John Dunne said that no man is an island, but when you live on one sometimes it is hard to remember that we are all connected. Thank you for this awesome place. Thank you for the window to the world again...

spinjenny 09/16/2008 #

LOL, Ayn, I can't take any credit for the allocation of partners, as Swap-bot does that automatically, not for the existence of Swap-bot - all that goes to Rachel and Travis.

AynE 09/16/2008 #

Okay, you are as modest and retiring as Robin's wife, but thank you for answering all my newbie questions and having a sense of humor and a teacher's heart By the way, thank you Rachel and Travis, whoever you are and whereever you are. This was a spot on, totally bodacious idea.

AynE 09/19/2008 #

Okay, this is probably an absolute no brainer but how and where do I show that I sent my postcards out to my folks? Got one, rated it but don't see where I indicate that I sent some out...the joys of being new and clueless...

blackbody 09/22/2008 #

Sent mine just a few minutes ago! :)

spinjenny 09/22/2008 #

Sorry, Ayn, I didn't see your question as my mother has been ill so I didn't have much time online over the weekend. I see you found the answer, though, as you have marked Sent already. In case any other newbies are wondering, the link is in the yellow box at the top right of this page.

spinjenny 10/10/2008 #

Only one member of this swap has not yet marked Sent, and I have already been in touch with her partners. If any of you do not receive your postcards, please contact your partner before giving a 1, and if you do not get a satisfactoy response, please let me know and I will try to help.
