Description:

For this swap you'll send one photo print to three partners, and the main subject of the photo should be a flower or flowers. Any kind of flower, any sort of camera, any degree of digitial manipulation (or none at all), any size print--what print you send is entirely your choice as long as it's a photo taken by you and it features a flower or flowers in some way!

You can print your photo at home or have it commercially printed--either is fine if the result is a good print.

And just so we're on the same page: this isn't an email/online photo swap; photos should be sent in an envelope by the good old-fashioned mail service.

The fine print: 1) Newbies are welcome. 2) Rated swappers with a rating below 4.95 will be dropped before partners are assigned. I will also drop swappers whose profiles may cause concern; if there's something on your profile that you think might raise eyebrows, please contact me in advance. 3) This is an international swap!

I would like to ask my partners to send me real photos, if possible in mate paper. I'll do the same for my swap partners.

beckra 08/16/2008 #

Hey there, craftywitchygirl--I really believe in artist's choice/sender's choice for swaps like this, so it's really up to your partners what they're going to send to you. I wouldn't want people to feel pressured to meet a recipient's preferences for this swap, though I'm thinking of setting up a photography swap in the future where the recipient does get to specify what kind of photograph they'd like to receive....

hi! looking forward to this swap! i love taking pictures! i think i have a million pics to fill this requirement already!

for mine, i wouldnt mind whether i receive them online or in the mail, and if people are in the UK (like me, i shall send out a real pic) otherwise it will be online!

please spread the word and make my day!

Hello, MJjunkie86--I'm a bit confused about your comment. For this flower photo swap, the photo has to be sent in the mail, not online, even if you have a partner in another country.

Josietai 08/21/2008 #

I sure hope MJjunkie got your message beckra...its pointless to send photos through email. I certainly want mine by snail mail. That's why I'm so in for this!!

MJjunkie86 08/22/2008 #

yeah yeah dont worry josietai i got the message! this reply confused me "Hey there, craftywitchygirl--I really believe in artist's choice/sender's choice for swaps like this, so it's really up to your partners what they're going to send to you. I wouldn't want people to feel pressured to meet a recipient's preferences for this swap, though I'm thinking of setting up a photography swap in the future where the recipient does get to specify what kind of photograph they'd like to receive...." coz the original question had said "I would like to ask my partners to send me real photos" and i assumed the reply was to that bit, as opposed to the bit that said "possible in mate paper"

so you can see why i thought it was either snail or email

In my response to craftywitchygirl I was trying to suggest that one couldn't expect a partner to honor her request for a matte print.

By "sender's choice" I meant the sender gets to decide what particular photo to send (whether it is digitally altered, printed on glossy paper or matte, a Polaroid or a black-and-white, etc., etc.). But how it's sent isn't sender's choice in that we'll all be sending photos through the mail. I'm sorry if I confused folks. Hopefully the swap description (which I tinkered with a bit) makes it all clear now.

I do think, though, that we're all on the same page now, which is good!

can we send the same picture to all 3 partners? what was everyone else planning on doing?

beckra 08/25/2008 #

Hello, crispy! It's up to you: you could send the same picture to all 3 partners, or you could choose to send a different one to each.

marionjoy 08/27/2008 #

hi, love this swap!

what do you think about adding some info about the photo (eg. a daisy photographed in my garden august 2008...)

something like that.. what do you think? ..no stress.

beckra 08/27/2008 #

Thanks for the suggestion, marionjoy! If people want to include a note saying a bit about the flower (what it is, and where they took the photo), I think that would be great. But since a good number of folks have now signed up without my making that a required part of the swap, I don't want to change it at this point. My guess is that most people will write something like that in any case, but--like you say, marionjoy--I don't want anyone to feel stressed out. :)

My photo lab at the drug store said that matte prints are only available for film, not digital images. Does this make sense?

twobluecrows 08/29/2008 #

goldfish--it makes sense only because the machines they print the digital images out on usually only have glossy paper in them. The films get sent out to a photo lab where they can put rolls of film into either a matte or glossy machine to develop and print.

Online printshops can give you a choice though, I use EZPrints.com and have had many terrific prints from my digital pictures, or scans of old photographs.

Question--Can the photos be sent as postcards or do they have to be in an envelope?

Cyn

beckra 08/30/2008 #

Hello, Cyn! I had written "in an envelope" in the swap description when I originally posted the swap, so I think I'll keep it that way. I hope you don't mind!

beckra 08/30/2008 #

Hello, goldfish--

I have a situation similar to what you & Cyn mention: if I order my digital prints at a local lab, they'll only do glossy because that's the paper they have. But when I order them from winkflash.com, I get a choice of glossy or matte. I have to wait a bit longer for them to arrive through the mail, but sometimes it's worth it because I think that some of my shots look better in matte....

goldfish 08/30/2008 #

Thanks for the tips, Beckra and 2Bluecrows! Matte looks a lot more professional and I thought I was out of luck!

What a great swap... thanxx
