Description:

Last year, my pen pal and I made each other Advent Calendars for each other- it was so lovely to bring back the excitement you felt as a child when waking up in the morning to open the package or envelope for the day!

For this swap, you will create an advent calendar for your partner. It must consist of 25 separate packages (envelopes, small wrapped gifts etc.) for your partner to open in December. You can choose to make your calendar with mainly envelopes (which contain happy messages, flat items, directions for what to do on the day- e.g. watch a Christmas movie, make some Christmas food, go see the lights, play carols etc) or include lots of gifts for your partner.

You are free to choose, as I know postage can add up but you must include at least 8 wrapped small gifts (stationary items, candy, key rings, postcards, jewelry, stickers, etc) in the calendar.(the minimum spend is USD 8.00 before postage) I think it would be nice to have more fun things and items in your calendar, to get into the giving spirit of Christmas though :)

Don't forget to make the calendar pretty so your partner can display it in their house <3

Also, when you receive your partner, you might want to check their profile for things that they like, to make their Christmas more magical!! Please be mindful of your partner's beliefs, and as a rule I would suggest not including religious references, unless discussed with your partner :)

Send the swap in a package with your swap bot name and maybe some Christmas wishes!

Happy Swapping!!

Hello :) I just wanted to know what's a calendar like ??. :)

pandagigante 09/16/2015 #

Do you mean loose packages/envelope or connected into one calendar somehow?

lilrawker 09/16/2015 #

I love this idea, but 4.90 is quite low for such a big swap and allowing newbies is a bit risky for me. If you host another one later, would you consider hosting one for good rated experienced swappers?

pactodeficcion 09/16/2015 #

I'm also thinking about an advent calendar swap for experienced swappers, so maybe I can host one if @potatojem doesn't mind :)

Hi sjayana20 and pandagigante- a calendar similar to the one in the picture, all loose numbered packages/envelopes. They don't have to be connected at all. Search for 'Advent Calendar DIY' online and you should get a better idea :)

lilrawker- I'm allowing 4.90 ratings because often these swappers are very experienced and have only ever had one or two ratings less than 5, so I wanted to give them a chance to do a fun larger swap. I will be checking everyone's profile and looking for any unexplained ratings, to ensure everyone in this swap receives a good quality advent calendar. After this swap, I was considering hosting another one for higher rated swappers, thanks :) pactodeficcion- go for it :)

Thanks for your answer. I will wait for the swap for higher rated swappers :) Happy swapping!

@potatojem Flakers and swappers who have several 1's and 3's often have ratings above 4.85, so your rating is really extremely low and just begs for flakers to join.

I see you are a newbie yourself, so you obviously don't understand the ratings and how they work. Please reconsider your rating requirements for the safety of your swappers and to save yourself a possible avalanche of angelling to have to do.

@potatojem I agree with you. I received a single "3" rating and ever since I've been struggling to get my rating higher. And I've been banned from a few swaps just because of that one rating months ago. And it was due to a car accident and I sent a RAK package.

@lizard I feel that the decision of the rating requirement is up to the coordinator and determining that because this person is new to swapbot doesn't mean they are new to swapping or doesn't understand how rating works. If you feel the rating is too low, don't join. I've done more than 10 swaps since my bad rating and I'm still not at a 4.8 and I only Missed the send date that one time. I feel that we all make mistakes and just because of that we shouldn't not be allowed to join anymore cool swaps. I'm sure that @potatojem will check profiles and if they feel that the swapper has several bad ratings they will decide. Plus, if you don't get your swap that your partner sent, the partner you had still got a smile on their face and that's what this is all about.

Rant over. 😁

@Rcinderella I am just trying to help a newbie who has not been in terribly many swaps and never hosted before. She isn't in any groups yet, including Newbie Helpers or others which may help her.

You're a relative newbie too and have only hosted one, so you may not remember the information given when one creates a swap. I only mean to help, so your "rant" isn't necessary.

Anyone who joins this swap, I wish you happy swapping.

@Lizard Thanks for your concern and help. I've done enough swaps to know what to look for in fellow swappers, and as I said above, I am screening everyone who joins, regardless of their rating to ensure they understand the swap and to explain any low ratings from previous swaps :) @Rcinderella7 I'm glad you are able to join in :)
