Description: | |
I love to knit lace shawls as gifts, but some of the most popular shawls use only 550yds to 700yds of yarn, leaving plenty left from a typical 100g or 4oz skein. So this swap is for enough lace weight yarn to knit a little shawl like Kiri or Swallowtail: a minimum of 550yds to 700yds or 2oz (56g) of lace weight yarn. Lace weight yarn can be anything from fingering to cobweb, so, as a rough guideline, if you choose fingering (220yds/50g) weight, you should send at least 150g or 660yds; and if you choose cobweb (1500yds/100g) weight, you should send at least 2oz or 840yds. Please send nice natural fibers like merino, silk or even cashmere blends, no acrylics or synthetics, not even artificial silk (rayon/vicose), although seasilk and soysilk is fine (ask your partner if in doubt). You can send appropriate leftovers from your previous projects, or coned yarn wind-offs, but please label the yarn information clearly. If you choose to send an appropriate size needle, please send one that is specifically recommended for lace knitting (sharp tips, smooth joins and flexible cord). If you don't enjoy knitting lace with it neither will your partner. You may suggest or send a pattern, but please do not violate copyright. Required minimum cost of yarn (plus needle, if any) excluding postage, is US$15. Lace weight yarn is light enough for international airmail not to cost much. This is my first swap and I want it to work, so no one with a rating of less than 4.5 will be allowed to join. This means no newbies. If you feel you have been rated unfairly, contact me. If you join please play fair and send your partner something nice that you would want to knit yourself. |
