It has been at least a week since I last assigned partners for a bird swap. A whole week! If you find a week too long, then you're in good company. In fact, a week is sooooo long, that I have decided to launch a bird overdose swap! However, I am strapped for cash, as are many of you. In this swap, you will send your partner as much birdy joy as you can manage in a standard overseas letter. Try to keep material things to a minimum (hence "cheap"): think of alternatives such as anecdotes, favourite bird blogs, found feathers or owl pellets, things you have made; or your tried and tested pattern for nesting boxes. Example anecdote (true): my wonderful and eccentric Stepmum once decided to make fat balls for the tits. She blagged some low-quality fat from the butcher and rendered it in a giant pan on the stove. The smell was so awful, that we had to leave the house with the windows open for several hours. I suppose the only reason no burgars entered is because it stank so infernally. Image: a bluethroat. I can't remember the photographer, sorry. |
