Music Mix E-Swap #3 - The Good Old Days [Edited]

This swap is part of a series. I love doing music swaps, but being a starving student, I don't always want to worry about paying the postage to send CDs in the mail. Instead of CDs, you'll be swapping .zip files of music through e-mail.

The theme of this swap is 'The Good Old Days'. Make a mix of 10 - 20 songs that you think fit the theme. They don't necessarily have to be old songs, although those are very welcome; any song that make you feel nostalgic, songs about memories, whatever you feel fits the theme can go in your mix. If you'd like, you can include images to be the 'album art' and a tracklisting to give a little extra creativity. Then put it all in a .zip or .rar file and email it to your partners. If your e-mail service has too low a limit on file size, upload it to a file-hosting service (sendspace, megaupload, etc.) and e-mail the link.

Rules:

Since this is an e-swap, I won't be too picky, but no newbies without filled-out profiles, and if I look at your profile and see a bunch of recent unexplained no-sends, I will remove you from the swap.

How to decrypt your music files:

If you bought some or all of the music you want to include in your mix from the iTunes store, the songs are encrypted, which means that no one else can listen to them on any other computer. To decrypt the files, put them on a playlist, burn them onto a CD, remove the CD from your computer, reinsert, then import the new CD. Next, make sure the info on your new files matches the old files (right click, then select get info on the song in iTunes; the year, composer, genre, disc number, and track number must match the file you bought for it to be included in the album) and delete the old files.

How to make a .zip or .rar file on a PC with iTunes:

1. Find your music files. They should be located either where you saved them if you saved them to your computer (usually My Music) or in iTunes music if you bought them or imported them from a CD.

2. Right-click one of them, and click Add to Archive.... Name the .zip or .rar file so it corresponds with your mix.

3. Open WinZip or WinRAR. In the upper left-hand corner, there should be a button marked Add. Click it, then go through the folders to find each file you want to go into the archive, including album art and/or a tracklist if you made them.

4. If you'd like, you can rename the music files with numbers before each track so that they are in the order they are in your mix. Now you are done! Exit WinZip or WinRAR and either attach your .zip/.rar file to an email or upload it to a file hosting website (I recommend sendspace.com) and email the link to your partner.

How to make a compressed file on Macs, courtesy of findeerror:

On a Mac, you will be able to drag the MP3 files from iTunes into a folder, then control-click the folder and select 'compress'. The file will be compressed into an archive file that will be smaller and easier to upload to sendspace, etc. You will still be sending MP3 files, but they will be neatly packaged for upload.
