Description:

Mono prints are fun and so easy to make. For this swap you will make 2 ATCs for 1 partner. Use inks, gouache, water colour or acrylic paints.

Place paint on a piece of glass. Glass from an old picture frame or mirror will do but be careful!

Use a roller or a paint brush to spread the paint over an area big enough for your work. You will have to work rather quickly before the paint gets too dry. Using a stick or end of your brush or a pencil, draw a pattern or a quick sketch into the paint. It will be printed in reverse so remember this if adding text. Now place your paper onto your glass and give a quick, even rub with your hand and peel off immediately.

You can then choose a section of your picture that is 3 1/3" x 2 1/2" for your ATC... unless you are clever enough to have made a tiny ATC sized drawing. You may decorate and embellish if you wish.

The example above is one I did years ago with black gouache and coloured chalk pastels. Remember these are not meant to be 'FINE ART' but are definitely 'FUN ART'; so I hope you will join in and I am sure you will love this technique.

I am allowing plenty of time to experiment. The designs you make will be your choice.

Don't forget it is important to attach your work to a firm backing and label it appropriately. Open to world wide swappers, no recent no-sends, well filled in profile with a decent rating... although new swappers are also welcome. Please do the right thing and send to your partner. If you are going to be late (stuff happens to us all and we understand) DO send your partner a message. Oh.. and please rate your partner when you receive your ATCs. Message me with any questions or leave a note below. Thats it... enjoy!

I was anxious to try this technique. It is a little tougher than I thought and also noticed that the second and even 3rd atc that I added to my print came out better than the first (I used acrylics). I have a small rectangular flat watercolor container that I just closed and added my paint to...perfect size for atcs and just wiped off easily with wet paper :) I painted Atc's first with base color than added print afterwards. Thank you for the technique. I will definetely use it again. :) Linda

I've been playing with stamps made from hot glue and and the ribbed part of corrugated cardboard. This sounds like fun!

I enjoyed working with this project. I have never done a mono print before so I was up for the challenge. I used acrylic paint and lobbed it on thickly, perhaps too thickly, but that's okay. when I laid the watercolor paper on it the paint spread out like crazy and left all sorts of texture on the print. the colors blended as they spread out. Maybe that is not how mono-prints are supposed to work but I like the effect and I hope my partners like them also.

Jananini, I don't think there are any rules for creativity, I think the technique you used sounds great. I have done some with more than one colour as well. As long as you get a picture from the process it is correctly done. The 'mono' part just means it is a one step process and not a multi layered type of print. I hope we get to see yours on flickr? :)
