I have hosted a blackout poetry swap here before, but I am surprised that they don't show up more often given how simple they are to create! Blackout poetry is fun, creative, and easy. All you need is a piece of printed text (page from a book, newspaper article, magazine article, etc.), a permanent marker, and your brain! For this swap, you will create a ONE-PAGE BLACKOUT POEM from a pre-existing page of text and send it to your partner. Feel free to create an entire image out of the page to accompany the words in your poem if you'd like, but all that is required is simply to black out a majority of the words on the page you chose, and leave a few words that will create a poem. You may use any size of original text (magazine, small novel, etc.) as a base, so please be prepared to receive any size of poem and do not rate lower if the poem you send is large than what you receive. The steps to blackout poetry can be found here: https://www.powerpoetry.org/actions/5-tips-creating-blackout-poetry but I will also list instructions below. Step 1: Find one page of text from a book, magazine, or newspaper Step 2: Skim the page for any "anchor" words--words that jump out at you or strike you as particularly deep or meaningful Step 3: Circle any words you think you'd like to use to construct your poem Step 4: Black out or otherwise color over all of the other words on the page, so that all that is visible is your poem (OPTIONAL) Step 5: You may draw/paint/outline an image in the background of your page that reflects/complements your poem's theme or concept (see the image at the top of the swap for an example) This swap will be available to swappers with a 4.5 rating and up, as well as newbies/unrated swappers. This is a pretty simple craft which costs relatively little to make, so I'm confident that all variety of swappers will be able to participate. I'd like to run this swap monthly if people enjoy it, so let me know how you like it! Feel free to contact me with any issues or questions. I will angel if necessary but I have confidence in all of you! Let out your inner poet :) |
