The History

St Nicholas' Day is an observance of European origin that will be celebrated in some American communities on Sunday, December 6, 2020.

The legendary figure of St. Nicholas is derived from Nicholas of Myra who officiated as a bishop in 4th century Greece. During his lifetime he developed a reputation for gift-giving by putting coins into other people's shoes, which accounts for many of today's Christmas traditions that involve leaving gifts in shoes or boots.

Some Europeans who immigrated to the United States brought with them beliefs, customs and practices associated with St Nicholas' Day. It has been recorded that celebrations associated with the observance took place in cities such as New York in the early 1800s.

The Swap

Send some small wrapped items for your partner's shoe. Aim to send two or three small, profile/wish list based items, with a total value of $5, not including shipping. Please send new or nicely handmade items. Send something you would be happy to receive.

Please make sure you have some items that meet the swap criteria listed in your profile so your sender can easily sort something for you.

Please include a small card or tag that includes the swap name and your user name so your partner can easily rate you.

Please rate your sender soon after you receive your goodies. Rate a "5" if you received two or three profile/wish list items valued at about $5, mailed by the send deadline.

Notes

I will review all participants before I assign partners and include as many as possible in this swap!

I reserve the right to ban users with recent (last six months) 1's or 3's, those who have not logged in to SwapBot within five days of the swap's end date, those without detailed profiles or those with less than five well rated type 3 swaps in the last six months. I am looking to minimize any chance of drama and make this swap safe for as many as possible.

I'm making this swap US only, due to postage costs. If you would like to make an international version, please do so.

I will angel this swap no sooner than January 2022, if you don't receive anything and rate your sender as a 1.

Thanks for participating and spreading some joy this holiday season!

Sinterklaas, Saint Nicholas, is celebrated the 5th of December in the Netherlands. My grandson was to be a Nicholas but he was born on the 5th so my daughter decided against.
