Description:

I hope everybody had fun at the random people postcard swap - I know i did! I already got 2 beautiful postcards and can't wait to see what comes next in the mail. I know that for most people that was a new experience and I was really happy to hear about the experience of trying something new from a few of the people in it.

And now for the next challenge!

This month topic is insect - I know some people don't like them, but I do, I love the shape and geometric logic and how amazing and colorful they look.

If you are scared of beetles then there are always dragonflies, butterflies, lady bugs, mosquito, Praying mantic (my all time favorite bug) and much much more.

Again, this is a drawing \ painting challenge, which means that most of the postcard should be hand drawn or painted - not all collage or stamping.

You will make 5 postcards and send to 5 people.

People with rating below 4 will be ban (or contact me before hand and we'll talk about it). Newbes with a non empty profile are welcome to.

don't be afraid to ask any questions, if you have any.

Have fun!

what is the average size for a postcard? I've never made one myself.

SharonP 04/16/2007 #

I love this topic, too, Aya, it should be fun.

Ozrob, postcards are often 4 by 6 inches, in the US the maximum size to get by with one regular postcard stamp is 4-1/4 by 6 inches, but if you make a larger one you just need to use a letter stamp (in the US; I don't know what the regulations are elsewhere).

A while back I bought a pad of watercolor "postcards" -- that is, 140lb watercolor paper cut to 4X6 with a smooth back and the lines already marked for postcards. It's quite easy to carry around with me so I am more likely to get around to doing the drawings (all of mine for the people swap were drawn in coffee shops! -- I hope I don't find too many insects there!)

US postal rates go up on May 14, so those of us on this side of the Atlantic have an extra incentive to mail a little bit early!

Ozrob - Received your lovely dragonfly card! It is so colorful, just right for a dragonfly. Also very creative how you wrapped the words around the edges. The envelope was really fun, too, and can't forget the cool Australian stamps! Thank you!

Aya - your awesome card arrive today, also. I love the symmetry and clean lines of your drawing! Makes the 'real' one really stand out, lol. Great work, thank you!

Beautiful, beautiful cards, ladies! Thanks so much, this has to be my favorite swap so far!
