How wonderful to be with you at this time as our weather changes out of the summer and into the autumn. I felt while they may still be in season how would you like to come dye with me? We shall be dyeing papers with common vegetable matter. This video shows Avacado pits and shells (pinks or oranges). It depends on the ph of your water. You can do the same with walnut husks (green to browns), or Acorns ( grey to brown) or Pomegranite Skin (ochre yellow) if avacado is not in your neighbourhood. PLEASE NOTE, an experiment I found better for Pomegranite and acorn (Walnut too I believe) is to tear or slice the shells/skins using a knife or kitchen scissors as this will release the dye quicker in the simmering process. If you think nothing is happening, trust the process, just allow it to simmer the desired time and the colour will release gently as the lady shows with almost red in her next day dye bath, it is the tannin in the skins and pits that slow release the colour. Use an old pot to dye with. Follow this Link here for easy Tutorial FOR THIS SWAP -you will have one partner to send them three samples of your work. Lets keep the envelopes small to ease the international swappers, but if you are swapping within your own country, you go as large as you want. I hope you will enjoy trying the recipe that Natasha of Treasure Books provides us with in our link to the tutorial. Please forward any queries to us that you may need help with, Anna, Nickalli and Jane |
