Description:

I saw a specimen tag on Instagram and it inspired me to try to create one on my own. And once I had done that, I thought it would make a fun swap for our group.

The card I created is index card size - 3 X 5 with a tab on one end. It has a 2 1/4 inch hole punched in it where your specimen will sit. I attached the tab to the left side of mine and added an eyelet.

To create the card, I cut two identical 3 X 5 pieces of heavy card stock and one tab, using a die that I have. Using rubber stamps, some paper scraps and labels, I decorated the front of one of the index cards and edged it with Vintage Photo Distress ink.

Using a circle die, I cut a circle onto each 3 x 5 card so they match up perfectly. I then cut 2 square pieces of clear acrylic slightly larger than the holes in the index cards and those were glued to the inside of each index card. Before gluing the two cards together, I glued the butterfly to the front of the back acrylic circle so when those two cards are glued together, the specimen is encased in the acrylic or sandwiched between both pieces of acrylic. Then both cards are glued together.

The tab was also edged with the same Distress ink, an eyelet attached to the center, and it was then glued to the finished specimen card.

If you would like me to create a little "kit" for you, I am happy to do so. It would include the two index cards, the tab, and two pieces of acrylic. I think it's a good idea to decorate your front piece before you cut your circle in it so you don't have to work around that.

So, one specimen card for one partner! And please message me if you would like me to send you a "kit"!
