Description:

This swap is for people who write. It doesn't matter if you write for fun, for profit or just to express yourself. But you do need to be:

a) serious about your craft

b) willing to follow through.

The purpose of this swap is to get inspired about your writing, to set writing goals (a contract with yourself), and to assess your progress at the end of the swap.

Read carefully before joining. This is a two-part swap.

PART 1

a) Post below what type of writing you do and whether you write longhand or on the computer/typewriter. Be specific on your type of writing. (For example, if you write fiction, state what type of fiction. If you blog, what's the overall theme of your blog? Is your writing personal journaling, poetry, etc.?)

b) Be sure your profile is complete.

c) Prepare for your partner an inspirational gift that he/she can use in her/his writing -- something that will inspire the person in their writing efforts and goals. It may be a nice pen and journal, an idea notebook, a book or magazine on the craft of writing, a framed quote, a mug, etc. Use your partner's profile and the note they post below to determine what will make a great writer's gift.

You are not to request anything in particular. Let your partner, who is also a writer, find something appropriately inspiring for you.

PART 2 a) Write a list of up to five writing goals you have for the next three months -- through the end of September. Sign and date the list. Make two copies. Keep one for yourself and mail along with the Part 1 gift, the second copy to your partner with a self-addressed envelope or mailing label. (no stamp. Your partner will pay the return postage)

b) On Aug. 1 (yes, I'll remind you), send your partner's goals list back to her/him with a note of encouragement.

The note you get back will remind you of what you said you wanted to do and will let you know how far you've come on your writing goals.

Thanks for considering this swap.

May your muse always be with you.

Hi there! I'm primarily a fiction writer (women's fiction, general fiction, mystery, romance), but my work in progress is a non-fiction book of essays.

DreamHope 06/ 7/2007 #

I am an unpublished writer of urban fantasy, mostly for a young adult audience. My topics and my style has been inspired by Holly Black, Francesca Lia Block, the Borderland series, and Charles de Lint's YA books.

I participate in NaNoWriMo and the 3-Day Novel Writing Contest (which takes place on the Labour Day weekend), so I usually write fast, and everything is typed on the computer and backed up on a gmail account.

The inspiration from this swap will hopefully help get me through my next 3-Day Novel!

I am primarily a fiction writer, who usually delves into fantasy, but also romance, transgressive and the occaisonal (very occaisonal!) mystery. I like to try out new styles, too. :) I also very rarely add to my journal, but I like journalling anyway. It's a shame nothing in my life is interesting enough to report!

I take part, like DreamHope, in NaNoWriMo, and also ScriptFrenzy, which I am doing right now!

Hi!

I am a stay at home Mum in my early 40's who's been writing since I was a child. I've had short stories, poetry, articles, features & editorials published; have worked in 'the industry' both freelance, and on staff for small 'niche' publications; and even ran a fan club newsletter for a rather prominent American actor for 3 years (back in the early 90's)!

My writing right now is a mix of my diary writing, keeping an online blog, and writing a book. Mostly I use the PC, but I do write longhand in my diary. I also sporadically keep a journal where I record thoughts, ideas, snippets, etc etc. It's quite a creative type of journal, with bits and pieces pasted in as well as lots of writing!

My blog doesn't really have a 'theme' as such; I write about situations, people and places in my life; as well as 'editorials' (for want of a better word) on different issues that interest me. My diary writing is more personal/rant-type stuff lol, and as I've said, it's longhand.

Although I'd love to, I can't really go into specifics about my book, as it's my practice to keep bigger projects 'under wraps' as it were, until they're finished (or I find I sometimes don't finish them!)! But I trust I've given enough information about the other writing I do to meet the criteria for this swap!! :)

Fabulous swap idea by the way - I can't wait to get started!!!

I write a little of everything.. I love stories with deep symbolism, and a powerful meaning/message behind them. My baby is a huge long string of stories that all tie together. It's a mixture of science fiction, fantasy, romance, adventure, religious fiction, and other things.

I also write poetry, mostly on political or social commentary kind of themes.

((Oh - and if you wanted to see a sample of my writing, I have some of it up on fictionpress. http://www.fictionpress.com/~jessethestoryteller ))

Lithmire 06/14/2007 #

I write mostly fiction and poetry. In my poetry, I don't write for a message as much as I do for the sound, so I concentrate more on the rhythm of the words then the message of the poem. I'm very inspired by Pablo Neruda and Sandra Cisneros. I write a fairly general fiction, but will always have a soft-spot for fantasy.

I also like more academic types of writing, and enjoy writing essays. Mostly they appear in my blog, which is a big conglomeration of serious thought, fandom and day-to-day affairs.

I do most of my writing on the computer, since not even I can read my handwriting. XD I really love keep notebooks of handwritten planning and such, though.

what an awesome swap, and i'm signing up right at the deadline! wow!

i've been writing my whole life. i write in journals daily, i've written two screenplays and am looking for an agent for my first novel, which is young adult fiction. i primarily write fiction, along the chick lit genre. i also have a blog on myspace, here's my page myspace.com/fabulusmeclt

my blog there doesn't have a theme, just my random thoughts or ideas.

i write my fiction on my laptop, i don't know what i'd do without it.

I am mostly a poetry writer, but I'm trying to branch out into fiction. I'm also writing bits and pieces of my memoir-ish type writing. I've been writing since I was in elementary school. I went for a few years without really writing much, but I found a writing partner recently, and I've been somewhat prolific in the past year. : )

Hi...

I love writing creative non-fiction type of works, as well as social and literary critique. I am trying hard to journal more. I also enjoy short story, and I write plays. I do a little of everything, except poetry, really - I leave that to the masters, unless it's a necessary part of a writing class. I also love writing letters, and spend a fair amount of time writing letters to friends and my pen pal.

I write on my computer, unless I have an urge to write when there is no computer around - then I'll write on anything handy.

This is, indeed, a wonderful swap.

Candy Star, I'll be sending yours off tomorrow!

DreamHope 07/ 4/2007 #

Beawhiz: I sent your package today. I had to send it ground (I didn't have enough cash on me for air mail), but it's only going from Vancouver, so it shouldn't take too long.

user8428 07/ 6/2007 #

Carmen, I sent your items off today via airmail all the way from wet and windy Melbourne, Australia!! Hopefully, they will be there soon! :)

Artistic 07/ 6/2007 #

DreamHope: A package was mailed to you today from Virginia (USA) going first-class international. It's a well-taped white box. Enjoy!

I'm so happy, proud, and excited... because one of my goals was to just start writing again, and I just wrote a story and a poem last night... I'm so proud of myself!! hahaha... I haven't written anything since January and that was just a poem my brother paid me to write for his poetry project...
