Description:

Based on a good suggestion by Masterbard I am asking swappers with international partners to check custom laws concerning the shipment of certain items like plant and animal materials. Please email your partner before shipment.

This is the second round-

I have a fasination with Cabinets of Curiosity and have found a few shops on Etsy that have really got me interested in produce my own vintage assemblage one day. I am always on the hunt for old wild and crazy items I might use in said assemblage and in the process have amounted a large collection of found items. Sooo, I hope to do some object swapping with others looking for found items. The last round was a great and fun success. I think it would be fun to see what folks from around the world send so it's international! This will be limited to 4.9’s and above. I will be checking for 1’s and will allow with good explanation. Here’s the requirements:

-You must collect 20 small items that may be used in art- small enough to fit in a large 250 count matchbox.

-Items must be Natural, Vintage, Old, Retro, Antique, Victorian, ect. or reproductions of, odd, unusual, Macabre ect.

-They must be nice and fairly clean (considering the vintage aspect), but do not have to be new.

-No junk...in the sense of trash! wink

-None of the same item, variety please.

-Decorate your 250 count matchbox 'cabinet' inside and out to follow theme.

-Extras for hearts

Some ideas might include: keys, broken pieces of crock and china, sea glass, costume jewelry, old lace and ribbon, ephemera, buttons, watch parts, small old bottles, gears and metal fittings of sorts, small knick knacks, old pictures, old fabric, small toys, game pieces, shells, rocks, handkerchiefs, natural feathers, doll parts, thimbles, old silverware. You’re only limited by imagination. For some ideas look up assemblage and altered art on yahoo or your search engine. If you have any questions let me know. I would rather not angel this swap, but will if I need to.

Some ideas for such cabinets can be seen here:

I can't believe someone is making this a swap! I've been fascinated by the Curiosity Cabinet concept for years and only now have enough things to put one together - yet somehow never made that last creative push to actually go ahead and assemble it. The timing seems perfect, and I have extras of most of my goodies - so let's swap!

Some things I could be sending from Korea: a gambling tag from a hwatu game / a cow's molar / a scarlet scallop shell / a vial of vampyre blood / a vintage ticket....

Anyone interested in Cabinets of Curiosity and Wunderkammern should read this beautiful (and illustrated) article at Cabinet Magazine:

Gives us time to start collecting... :)

My friend has a house full of curious iemsy. He started to collect natural artifacts when he was six. Go and see for your selves on frumingelo.blogspot.com (the blog is in Dutch, but can easily be translated)

I realized that it wouldn't be wise to send any natural materials like cow's teeth, feathers, or fur scraps overseas - customs regulations are pretty strict in some countries.... and they might not be amused at 'vampyre blood' no matter how fake it looks, either.... (pouts) well, will do the best I can without any animal artifacts....

Good point on sending animal items. I suspect that fossils would be ok however. Please consider customs and ask your partner if there are items that can not be sent. I know sometimes plant materials like seeds are questionable as well. It seems Australia had some major laws that should be reviewed. Thanks for the good points Masterbard. Will send out a message to everone and redo my info.

I have a question since this will be my first 250 count matchbox... Do we just fill the box with 20 items OR do we make a shrine type arrangement (glue things in a neat way ,make compartments,etc..) ?

breccamerie 12/14/2009 #

The intention of the swap was to gather up items to use in a altered art craft by your partner or a cabinet of curiosity. You are more than welcome to make little campartments if you like for the items but check with your partner before producing a shrine as this is outside the swap rules but your partner might enjoy receiving one. Hope that helps.
