Broke Folks Postage Control #1 USA

Launch gallery slideshow

Swap Coordinator:DarbyFlats (contact)
Swap categories: Miscellaneous  Newbie
Number of people in swap:16
Location:Regional - USA Only
Type:Type 2: Flat mail
Last day to signup/drop:December 27, 2009
Date items must be sent by:January 4, 2010
Number of swap partners:5
Description:

I'm tired of people expecting a package when the swap is for a one-stamp, flat-item, envelope. This swap is intended to control postage costs, with people who understand that we can't turn every swap into a package that costs $5 to send (not to mention the content value!)

Choose items that your partner would like based on their profile that fit in an envelope and use only one stamp (44 cents). That means, if you use MORE than one 44 cent stamp, your partner can rate you a three. It is against swap requirements to use more postage. :)

The happy mail swaps I host cost me about $10 in postage for 5 partners. This swap- because controlled- will only cost me $2.50. This is a test. If people like it, I will do it regularly. If an international version is requested, I'll have to figure out equivalents.

I have chosen five partners because I really, really enjoy getting mail. I'd like to achieve mail volume, while not spending a large fortune!

*No unexplained ones or threes in your ratings.

*You must have a wish list that includes lightweight flat items.

*Newbies welcome with filled out profiles. Please go to mine if you need an example. Mine is too long, though, lol!

*Please ask any questions BEFORE you sign up for the swap. If this is a stupid idea, please let me know!

*I have the right to ban at will. I will check every profile.

**I tend to forget to check the comments. PLEASE e-mail me or send me a message if you have a question! :) **

I have a bad habit of forgetting to check the comments in the swaps I host. Please contact me by e-mail ([email protected]) or by private message if you have a question or concern.

For one, I think this is a great, fun idea. But Jan. 4th is a Sunday. Plus, with all of the holiday activity, it's a short swap window...maybe push it to the end of the first week of January and I would join.

dreamerkins 12/22/2009 #

umm... no... January 4 is a monday.. my kids go back to school that day...lol.

Very interested in an International version of this. (Have to clear up a couple of 1s first, ahem, which I am working on!) For the record, a standard letter from Australia to USA that is both Post Office Recommended Size (C5, A6 or DL, etc) and weighs 50g or less costs AUD $2.10. To most (all?) of Asia it's $1.45. To the UK/Europe it's ... I'm not sure. Go to www.auspost.com.au. And within Oz it's 55 cents, but set to rise to 60 cents in 2010. Anyway, I think it's a fantastic idea for a swap! I do try to stick to one stamp only when it's a criterion, but I often feel pressure to make it more substantial.

USA/UK/Norway/etc.: $2.10 New Zealand/Asia incl Japan: $1.45

oic what i did! When I switched my computer calendar to January, I failed to move it to 2010...my bad.

@JKupsh - now that you've told everyone it's your birthday, you can't rate down for extras, lmao!

@poeticpaper - no worries. I'm having a day, too! heehee The reason I chose Jan. 4th as the send date is because I'll have both kids here all week. They'll help and I have to give them something to do! :) I'll be hosting another one, don't worry.

@papercaper See, the conversions and values confuse me. I think US and AUS money are really, really close in equality. So that means, you'd spend over $2 and I'd spend 50 cents? That's just not fair. We'd have to even it up somehow. On a seperate note, I said no unexplained ones or threes. I also got involved in too many swaps without an organization plan! While you have 1s, I notice you are clearing it up before you're getting involved in a bunch more. I would let you join- just for the record! :) I think it takes guts to call yourself out, post it, and make it right.

Love the idea.!

I think this is a GREAT idea !!! Thanks!

Hi. I'm Michelle's (the host's) husband. So now that I've joined, it'll cost us $5. So much for saving money, haha!

I absolutely love this swap idea and I'll be filling out my profile tomorrow so I can join. But just for the record I like recies, embroidery patterns, misc craft tutorials, stickers for packages I send out, and anything you can randomly add to the envelope! :)

papercaper 12/27/2009 #

@DarbyFlats Does "I would let you join-just for the record! :)" mean "OK, you can join!" or "If this was international I'd let you join!"? My finger was hovering over the "Join Swap" button but I know that if you meant the latter then it wouldn't be fair to American participants who are expecting to spend only 44c.

Any International version in the works? I bet heaps of people would sign up - especially if it was for 2-3 partners rather than 5.

CraftyAnnie 12/27/2009 #

Hey, great idea. Love to do more of these in the future. Like it that you said not to put more postage so everyone doesn't expect to get a huge package. Nice on the pocketbook too! :)

TeaNi 12/27/2009 #

I'm in! Since the swap requirements say "*You must have a wish list that includes lightweight flat items" and my partner may not want to go through my extensive profile to find mine, haha; I always enjoy blank postcards especially of the map or "legend of" variety, bags of tea (flavored reds, whites, greens), rub ons or other card making supplies, Bible verse cards or stickers, blank notecards with envies, addie labels, wish granted cards (like swap cards, but for wishlist games), pieces of pretty fabric ribbon or eyelet (at least 12 inches), tags or things I can use in my swaps, unused US postcard stamps, Valentine themed pretties, lovely surprises:)

TeaNi 12/29/2009 #

I put mine together last night and mailed them out today to: evieroz, CraftyAnnie, Amblnc38, Ssusiesthimbles & christinanwags :) What a fun little swap!
