I would like to join your swap, but I have few questions. Does it have to be originals or I can print them in good quality? And can you give me few links for example how vintage men looks, because when I write "vintage men" in search, they give me a lot of different pictures like ephemera, photos.. Thank you. Hope my questions are not very silly :)

I don't even know what a book tip in is :(

thredz 07/15/2007 #

Wow, this looks good. Lisa, I had never heard of a "tip-in" before today, but I searched it and came up with this explanation: You are creating book pages that will combine with others to make a little book. By taking an 8.5 X 11 sheet of paper and folding it in half you will have 2 5.5 X 8.5 pages to decorate.

Now, my question is--do we do both sides of the 8.5 X 11 sheet, thus creating 4 pages? Has anyone out there found a site that has more step by step instructions?

Thanks! thredz

Agota it is men from before the 70's. It would go with epherma. And you can print it sure. that is what I have to do. I plan on using my great grandpas pictures & I need to print them. No way would I expect anyone to use originals!

thredz You do the inside, not the outside. So one side.

Lisa threadz pretty much said the basics. If you need help just send me a message.

I'm in! But one more question: How do you bind the pages when you get them? Or do you collect them like ATCs and bind them later? Did I just answer my own question? Can I stop now?

jessica 07/16/2007 #

I know how but I cannot explain it right. There are links. If you can wait until I get back online after my move I will find the one I have & get it to you. I am glad you joined!

I am totally obscurant! can you tell me, please, what is tip-in??

thredz 07/29/2007 #

HI Agota, I am learning more about these tip-in things; you can find some sites on the www (hey, do you know about "Goodsearch.com"? Every search you do sends a penny to your chosen charity! It gives searching a new purpose. I don't work for Goodsearch, I work for a non-profit, so fundraising is never far from my mind). Anyway, I found outsidethemargins.com - she has some great examples of tip-ins, but no real instructions; and then altered-book.com tells how to add it to a book you are working on--not exactly what we're doing here, but you can get a general idea of their purpose. The last line on the page sez it best "There are no rules, remember? If it works, it works." Swaps are perfect for experimentation and growth as artists, cuz your audience is going to be enthusiastic and grateful for almost anything you put your best effort into, without the judgement inherent with shows, shops, and (in my case) pets and family. So just do it.

Cocoa and Jessica - I just put your tip-ins in the mail, sorry they are late--this week involved some different chaos than the usual and I got swept away in the tide. I really enjoyed this challenge, and hope the tip-ins meet your needs. Jessica, you were going to advise us on how to bind the tip-ins. Do you have a site or easy instructions to pass along? Thanks! Melissa
