Description:

Collect TRASH from your car, a parking lot, your office trash baskets, the floor at the mall, wherever you can find it. Cover a postcard with the most interesting bits. Be sure to secure them well enough to survive the mail (although accidental damage through the post is part of the fun). AND MAKE SOME ATTEMPT TO MAKE THE TRASH POSTCARD "PRETTY".

The point of this swap is to put together a postcard made of trash, but to try to make it "pretty". Artfully arrange it, use glitter glue, add a few dabs of paint (or maybe grape juice - but do that separately so if it turns out sticky you can leave it out), get out your punches and make some flowers. You can use scrapbooking techniques and tools, and include some small additions like bits of string or paint. But please don't add any significant non-trash objects or embellishments.

Make 3 postcards, and send one to each partner.

PLEASE USE GOOD JUDGMENT AND DON'T SEND ANYTHING WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY UNSAFE.

NO - scrapbooking embellishment doo-dads

NO - cigarette butts

NO - medical waste

NO - food, gum, or anything else sticky

There may be smudges, there may be rips and tears, there may be things that >gasp< other people have touched. If you are fastidious or squeamish, please consider that carefully before joining this swap.

I have also created a "Trash PC" swap where there is no request to make the trash look pretty. Hopefully those will be more gritty and raw looking. If you're interested, please consider signing up for both swaps to compare the results.

This card is "senders choice". If you get a timely card with trash on it, please give that sender a "5" rating. Do not judge the cards on artistic merit, although hopefully we will all make a genuine attempt within our abilities!

I happen to be lucky enough to work at a candy factory where "trash" is spare bits of chocolate and caramel. But we also wrap alot and use a lot of ribbon. My trash consists of bits of ribbon, wrapping paper and pretty foils!

Fun!

Would stickers and stamps from swaps received be considered trash?

BetsyPreston 04/10/2010 #

No - do not use stickers and stamps from other swaps.

This should be stuff that you found on the ground somewhere. If you want to leave an envelope from a previous swap out in the rain, or run it over with your car and then use the stamps, now we're talking trash. Stamps you found on someone else's mail in the gutter - that's trash.
