Description:

For this swap, you will carry your camera with you for "one day" (aka, one week, since some of us would have to take pictures of our computer monitors and TV screens if we were to chronicle a single day of our life from the time we wake up until the time we crawl back into bed), and snap pictures that illustrate our lives.

I don't want to stifle anyone's creativity, so I'm going to make the requirements for the swap pretty loose. Feel free to take shots of whatever you like, but be sure to...

  • send your partners at least fifteen pictures. (Note: I've come up with that amount because I'm going to take a guess and say that the average person that doesn't suffer from insomnia sleeps for seven to nine hours, which leaves fifteen to seventeen hours of activity. If you think that fifteen pictures are too many, please let me know and the requirement can be changed.)
  • send the pictures via email, post them in the group forum, or upload your photos to a website such as Flickr or Photobucket. A lot of the time pictures are too large to go through email, and I can't think of how to explain how to compress photos into a .zip file, so I think that posting our pictures would be just as good as sending them. If you choose to do that, then please PM your partner and let her know where to find your pictures.
  • explain what each picture is of. Your explanation doesn't have to be long or in depth, but it should clue your partner in to the fact that the trees you took a photo of are in your yard or are in a park, what's in the bowl of food that you're eating, or what you're in the process of making.
  • include a picture of yourself. It's hard to illustrate your life if you aren't in it! ;-)

The "requirements" are extremely simple because this swap is all about satisfying our curiosity about each other. I encourage everyone to post their pictures and descriptions in the group forum on a thread that I'll create for this swap so that everyone can see them, but if you're uncomfortable doing that, feel free to skip it because it's only a suggestion.

This swap will be electronic, so you will have to use a digital camera or scan your photos onto your computer. I'd hate for everyone to spend an arm and a leg on photo print cartridges, or to have to run down to the store and order prints off of their SD card. You will have a week to take the pictures, and an additional week to upload, crop, edit, etc., them. The turn around for this swap will be a total of two weeks.

I won't suggest what sort of pictures you should take (well, beyond a picture of yourself) because a photo scavenger hunt was mentioned and I don't want to overlap that, but please do take as many interesting pictures as you can.

Have fun!

Are we going to be posting these on a forum thread so everyone can enjoy them?

Also, Picasa has web albums and is free through iGoogle. It's also a great place to put photos and get a link (to various sizes, too) to post in thread forums. It has some editing functions, too.

Lori, I hope everyone will! That's what I meant by this part ("I encourage everyone to post their pictures and descriptions in the forums so that everyone can see them, but if you're uncomfortable doing that, feel free to skip it because it's only a suggestion."), but it doesn't sound right. I was trying to get the swap set up before I crawled into bed and was having a hard time finding the words that I waned to use. Maybe I need to go back and put "GROUP" in there so that nobody thinks I mean the PF's. Hm.

So, I'll create a forum thread for the swap when it starts, since people are interested in it.

I've never used Picasa, though I've heard of it from people. We ought to check it out. If everyone wants to post links to their favorite sites for editing or hosting, I can put them in the swap description for easy access.

I would also remind people that most cell phones have a pretty decent camera if you don't have a digital camera. If you don't have the ability to text it to your email, I would be willing to be texted photos that I then forwarded to your email. Just PM me if you need this assistance.

Good idea, Lori! That'll help the people that can't email pictures to themselves.

I'm going to set up a thread for this swap and sticky it. That way, we can leave links or instructions.

Picasa is awesome. I just switched to that and love it.

...I am debating this one to decide if i am brave enough to take a pic of myself. LOL.

Would it help if I said that you can take a crappy picture of yourself? ::grins:: You know, hair hiding your face, eyes down, etc.? And, technically, you only have to show your picture to one person... you could leave your picture out if you wanted to post the rest of it in the forums. :-D
