Description:
This swap is for anyone who loves to make their own envelopes. Each participant will create an assortment of 15 handmade envelopes of any size, style, or color, and in return will receive 15 handmade ones from their partner. The envelopes can be made from any sort of paper (store-bought, clipped from a magazine, handmade paper, etc.), decorated however you like, and/or in any sort of style. Anything goes, as long as each envelope is handmade, and variety is definitely a good thing. Make sure to package your envelopes with cardboard or some other support, so they won't be damaged during shipping. If you have any preferences as to the envelopes you receive, please leave a comment on the main swap page or in your profile. For example, if you only want envelopes that can be mailed, please say so. Feel free to post photos of your sent or received envelopes to the Envelopes group on Flickr.

This looks like fun! I make "deed style" envelopes (opening on the short end) that can be mailed. I would also prefer mailable envelopes, but style isn't crucial.

Not sure if I'm signing up yet, but...

MAKING ENVELOPE GLUE (from http://www.stampo.com/envelope.html)

Ingredients: 6 tablespoons white vinegar 4 1 oz. packets unflavored gelatin 1 tablespoon vanilla extract (or any flavor that you like)

Bring vinegar to a boil in a small pan. Add gelatin and stir until dissolved. Add extract and stir until mixed. Brush on thin layer onto back of an envelope flap. Let dry. Moisten to apply.

Store excess glue in a sealed container and melt again for future use by putting in a pan of warm water.

Yargh! I want to make that glue, but I keep forgetting to ask people to get the gelatin for me when they go out.

Why can't I get it myself. Um...well...you see... -look! something shiny!-

Envelopes are packaged and ready to go out. They're only waiting on my father (who so kindly takes them to work with him--the Post Office), who tends to forget things that are important to me but that have no bearing whatsoever on his life.

I'll keep you updated, and should definitely have these sent by the deadline. :)

Oops! Looks like I might not be receiving anything for this swap... :( My partner is still listed as have "Not sent" and she has a rating of 1... Oh well.

At least I fulfilled my commitment and sent envelopes to my partner. And I suppose that is what is most important.
