Description:

I'm hoping to do a mini series of swaps for this Firefly APC booklet, if we get enough people to join! We will be doing one for every character every few weeks and I will host make-ups for anyone that comes in late. =)

For the first swap in this series we will make/alter two playing cards for your partner, then "bind" them together with those little metal rings (see my examples below for a better idea of what I mean.) These two cards will become the front and back cover of our Firefly Booklets. Decorate them with anything Firefly: Serenity, The 'Verse, the cast, a great quote, anything! Don't forget their are two sides to each card and at least of the numbers have to be showing. Don't forget to write on the back of one card: your swap-bot info, name, date, and anything else you want to add (email, blog, etsy, flickr, etc.)

Here are some great examples of APC booklets:

I will be checking profiles to keep this swap safe and fun! But if a flaker slips through the cracks I will be happy to angel.

Me too!

Shiny! Watching for now. :):)

Tip: if you're having trouble getting things to stick to cards, use some fins sandpaper to rough them up.

man i wish i had a printer! at this point i'd have to tear up my dvd cases to participate.....lol.

Vendetti 06/23/2010 #

@dreamerkins that stinks! I don't have a printer either... I just wait for my step-dad to leave the house then I sneak onto his comupter and use his printer. =) haha

OK, let me see if I have this right.

-2 playing cards for the front and back of book

-decorate inside and out on each cover card with Firefly splendor

-how many pages for the inside of book? (or is it strictly a cover and back) Are future swaps going to be pages to fill up the book?

-trinkets and such are ok to dangle on the front?

-where do you find the tiny rings for binding? Are they jewelry jump rings?

Thanks for letting me ask dumb questions, this will be my first booklet.=)

Duh, nevermind question #3.

Reading is fundamental.

gah

Vendetti 06/24/2010 #

@MzPatti You have it down! I'm going to do a mini series of these swap, one for each character. Trinkets and little thingies are totally exceptable and appreciated! The little rings you can find at Michael's, Joann, Wal-Mart, Target... pretty much anywhere you can buy school supplies. The reason I say to use these is because they open and close easily so we can add different pages the more swaps we complete. =D

And, of course I meant "fine sandpaper". lol.

Looking at the pix via the links above, one appears to be jump rings (which must be bent and unbent to open and close) while the other has one of those hinged rings that snaps together. I think the hinged ones would be easier to work with, but they are usually bigger. I think the jump rings look better though.

Thanks for 'splainin' everything, Vendetti. This will be so fun and we'll each have such a wonderful little booklet when we finish.

But, because I am as dumb as a box of hair, I have another question.

When we finish each card, do we punch holes in them or send them unpunched so the recipient will be able to line the holes up with their covers?

I know the answer is probably staring me in the face and I apologize in advance for being so thick.

If we send the cards unpunched do we send the rings with the covers in the first swap? Thank you for not throwing a brick through your monitor when I ask questions. =X

Vendetti 06/25/2010 #

It's a good question!

I'm going to say punch the holes in the covers and "bind" them with the rings. The pages after that though don't hole punch! Some people might just do one hole in the corner, some might do two in each corner... You get the idea!

I have never had a problem with using a glue stick to glue papers to playing cards, in fact that is what I use as the base to all my ATC's now, but the best glue stick that really sticks that I have found is Martha Stewart, others don't really glue that well, but they work for me!

MzPatti 06/25/2010 #

Gotcha! Thanks, sweetie.

Oooh! I loves me some Martha glue and glue sticks. That stuff is the bomb diggity. =D
