Have you all seen the latest fashion in book jewelry - A BOOK THONG. They seem to be taking over from the humble book mark. They can be made with a variety of materials and can be classic elegence to bejewelled works of art. They must not cause damage to any pages in a book so keep the middle part of the thong smooth and long enough to fit a standard size book at least. The picture here shows 2 that I have just crocheted and added some beads. For some ideas, google book thongs, uTube also show some instructions on making them. They don't weigh a lot so this swap will be an international one. You will make 2 thongs. You will have 2 partners and make and send them 1 thong each. I will give you plenty of time for this swap. Ratings over 4.8 please and no 1's or 3's in the past 6 months. This is senders choice but it would be a nice gesture to consider your partners wishes regarding colour, etc. but this is not necessary so please don't give a low rating because it's not your favourite colour. A lot will depend on what materials you have to play with.

You might want to consider adding length guidelines to this swap. In another similar swap, I received a thong with beads yet the distance between the beads was considerably less than the height of even the smallest available novel! Useless as the beads would dig into the pages damaging them AND not allow the book to lay flat! Just a friendly suggestion...

Hi I have been making these with thick fishing lines would that be ok? I also make them with ribbons, and different strings. Would this be ok?

Hi Patricia,

I think if you stick with suitable ribbon it should be OK. In my imagination I can see that fishing line and strings as such may get twisted or tangled. Not everyone would want to cope with that.

I've made a beaded one with jewelry quality 'fishing line' and it didn't twist at all.

OK, as long as the beads are suitably placed and will not damage the pages when the book is closed.

Mine are made with cotton thonging with beads knotted on both ends. They are good to go tomorrow. I hope the recipients enjoy them. I made the thong 11" between beads. I hope these are a decent enough size.
