Description:

Winter is coming! What we all need on these darkening evenings is a nice hot cuppa and some snuggly socks.

Here's the deal: Send enough sock yarn for your pal to make a pair of socks, and their favourite hot drink (tea, coffee, hot chocolate).

IMPORTANT: YOU MUST SEND YOUR QUESTIONNAIRE ANSWERS TO ME AS SOON AS YOU SIGN-UP. IF I DO NOT RECEIVE YOUR ANSWERS BY 10PM BST, 1ST OCTOBER I WILL HAVE TO BAN YOU FROM THE SWAP.(Read on for more information)

ALSO, I AM AFRAID I CANNOT ACCEPT PARTICIPANTS WITH BAD FEEDBACK.

Sign-up closes 1st October, and packages should be mailed by 21st October.

Minimum requirements:

  • Enough sock yarn to make a pair of adult sized socks
  • Some tea/coffee/hot chocolate (whatever your pal prefers)
  • At least one other little treat (for example a set of knitting needles, chocolate or body lotion)

I have set up a blog so that I can post updates and show off your packages! The address is: http://hot-socks-swap.blogspot.com/

FAQs:

Q: Who can join?

A: Anyone! I welcome international swaps - it is a great chance to get to know someone from far away (and to get yarn that you can't buy over here!!!)

Q: How much yarn should I send?

A: Please take the time to check the yardage and ensure it is enough to make an average sized adult pair of socks (around 400m/435 yards).

Q: How will I know who my pal is?

A: After sign-up closes Swap-bot will e-mail you asking for you to log in and view your pal's name and address.

Q: How will I know what hot drink my pal prefers?

A: Please fill in the questionnaire at the bottom and e-mail to me. I will then send you the answers from your pal after sign-up closes.

Q: What happens if I can't send my package by 21st October?

A: Please do not sign up unless you can commit to this deadline. That said, I will completely understand if life gets in the way and you need a bit of extra time. Just drop me and your pal an e-mail as soon as possible!

Q: How much should I spend on my pal?

A: This is down to you. However, I would suggest a minimum spend of £15 ($28 USD) NOT including postage.

QUESTIONNAIRE:

Fill in your answers and send to swapATindieknitsDOTcom before sign up closes on 1st October:

1)What do you prefer - solid, variegated or self striping?

2)Favourite colours?

3)Are you a beginner, intermediate or experienced sock knitter?

4)Tea, Coffee, or hot chocolate - what's your favourite? If coffee, what do you use to make it?

5)Do you have a fibre preference? (i.e. Are you a yarn snob like me?)

If you have any other questions please click on the contact link or e-mail me at swapATindieknitsDOTcom.

And last but not least, ENJOY!

Can we say no "Red Heart" or other cheap acrylic sock yarn? Only yarn store quality sock yarn.... I have a thing for natural fibers :)

Hi Tod,

Thanks for the feedback! I will add this as one of the questions I send out. Don't worry - I'm a fibre snob too ;)

Hi All,

I've decided to lower the minimum spend from £20 ($38 USD) to £15 ($28 USD). The minimum amount is still a guideline rather than set in stone, but I think that £15 is more reasonable.

Hope that's cool! Any probs do let me know.

I got my swap partner's name, but no info on them...will the answers to our questionnaires be e-mailed out to us, or do we have to ask our partners directly what they like?... I wanna start buying stuff...

Today I received a wonderful package from Carrie S. She put a lot of thought into it and I'm very grateful. I'll be making my first ever pair of socks from my favorite green and brown Alpaca yarn. I also received French Market coffee, handmade knitting stationary, a praline, huge and small post-its, cologne samples, lemongrass soap, mints, copies of 2 patterns that she made her first 2 pair of socks with. Carrie has made this my best swap ever.

Rebecca- I misplaced your email address, but I wanted to let you know that my package came on Monday and I love it!! The yarn, the goodies, all the little extras- it was perfect. I have wanted those little lock row markers, lol, but just never got them for myself :) Can't wait to get started on my first pair of socks. Thanks so much
