Description:

Summary: 1 partner to receive 1 SEWvenir quilt block

Do you like souvenirs? I do. Well, how about collecting SEWvenirs from other places without the expense of going there? Wouldn’t it be fun to have a quilt made from SEWvenir blocks sent to you from different states, maybe even different countries, and be able to instantly identify each place and person those blocks came from? That is our goal with this series of swaps.

You will send 1 partner one 12 ½” (finished size) quilt block in any quilt pattern you choose. Senders be creative, appliqué your state bird, or use embroidery thread to create your state flower, add yoyo’s, buttons, trim, whatever accents you want. Remember whatever embellishments you put on the block must be washable. Do not send a plain piece of fabric you’ve written on, there must be SEWING involved for a SEWvenir. Send what you would want to receive. (100% cotton fabric only)

Somewhere visible on the top of the block (not in seam allowance) you must add the following 4 pieces of information (suggestion: embroider or use permanent fabric marker)

  1. Your swap-bot name (or real name too if you want)

  2. Your state or country (add city if you want or region)

  3. Date you finished the block (at least the month and year)

  4. And something interesting about you, or your state, or the block, or maybe even a famous quote or your favorite Bible verse. This doesn’t have to be long, maybe just the name of the block or your state bird, or flower.

Newbies welcome with filled out profile, 5 snail-mail swaps to their credit, and at least a 4.8 rating.

Questions welcome, now get creative!

I am so excited to start collecting SEWvenir quilt blocks....this will be a very special kind of "I Spy" quilt. I spy a block from Missouri....I spy a block from England....oh boy, oh boy!

This does sound wonderful! I'm in! Will there be 11 more of this swap so we can do a whole quilt?

perkl8r 08/25/2010 #

yes, at least 11 more....possibly 15 more

I was inspired for this swap by some beautiful vintage quilt blocks I got at an estate auction. The lady they belonged to traded quilt blocks with folks from all over the world....(long before swap-bot came along) and I enjoyed reading the names on the blocks and the letters from the makers. She attached the letters to each block, and you can imagine how interesting their stories are! They are part of my "quilt treasures".

perkl8r..... Is there a place we could see photos of the vintage quilt blocks? I would love to see them!

Sadly I do not have access to the tools to be able to post/show the blocks for you...maybe I'll ask my daughter to help me with that...she has the tools but is in the middle of a move right now.

Two of my favorites are of ladies in big full ball gowns and besides the dresses being beautiful each lady is holding a bouquet of flowers and the way the flowers were made is neat...teeny tiny embroidery stitches right on top of each other. One of my other favorites is a flower block from Australia and the story attached states that the maker sees the flower every day in her front yard, and she also stated that the fabric selection in Australia was very limited at that time.....I think that block dates back to the 1970's.

I'm so excited to start my own NEW stash of Sewvenir blocks!

I wish you all could see the beautiful block from California made by ohsewaddicted...sorry I don't have access to the tools to post a picture but take my word for it, if all the blocks are as neat at this one, this will be one WONDERFUL QUILT when finished!

Finished mine and it was sent at the end of September. Here's a picture of it on Flickr. Just uploaded it this morning:

We have some sad news about one of our swappers...ozduchess just informed me that she recently suffered the loss of her DH....she stated she might be late sending on this swap and would like our patience.....

ozduchess, our hearts and thoughts are with you...let me know if you need any help with this swap...

more sad new....lets pray it's the last

One more of our swap partners in this swap has suffered the loss of her DH....RedVelvet35803 just informed ozduchess that her husband passed the day after ozduchess's.

I have decided to angel both partners for RedVelvet35803, and ozduchess, and would request that their partners rate my package as if it came from them. I am also extending the date of this swap by 2 weeks to allow them time to recover a little from their losses. If they choose to go ahead and make their blocks and send them out, their partners will receive 2 SEWvenier blocks, one from me, and one from them. Receiving partners, please do not return my angel packages, accept them as an advance thank you for being patient thru this rought time.

RedVelvet35803, please know that we are thinking of you. If you need anything, please contact me and I'll be glad to help in anway I can.
