Description:

So the deal is this: I just started making my own postcards, and I have no one to send them to! Many people don't want to receive handmade postcards, but I think they're great & unique. It doesn't matter if you're not an amazing artist; just put your heart into what you're creating! For this swap, you will create 2 handmade postcards and send them naked to 2 partners (meaning you will make and send a total of 2 cards), with a note written on the back about anything you'd like. (If your cards are fragile, you may send them in an envelope of course, but still write a note on the back!) Please put some effort into it! This swap is beginner-friendly, and it doesn't matter if they're not perfect--mine aren't--but please, do try. Any medium you'd like--collaged, drawn, painted, stamped, whatever, but please don't just send a photo with a stamp on it or an index card with some stickers stuck on or a 3-second pencil sketch. Be creative. Have fun!

Note: sender's choice, we haven't all been to art school, etc.--please rate a 5 on receiving a handmade postcard, even if it's not to the standard you'd like or on a theme you prefer.

It's great that you are doing this. Thought you might be interested in the Handmade Post Card Group here on Swap-Bot. Unfortunately I'll be away for the next couple of weeks and can't join now, but good good luck!

I'm thinking there's a vast difference between "an index card with stickers" and a photography. Photography is creative.

@BetsyG Thanks for turning me on to the group!

@eepy Photography is very creative, and I'm actually a photographer (as a profession), but it's not what I think of when I think 'handmade' :) Think of it this way--for an ATC swap, it would be weird if someone sent an ATC-sized photo, right? Not because it's not art, it's just...a different kind of art. I'm not explaining this very well, sorry. I guess the difference is this--if you're a photographer, you already have a bunch of photos, and it doesn't take much effort to put a postcard backing on a print, as it would if you'd taken the photo specifically for the postcard, but if you're drawing or painting or collaging, you have to create something unique for the postcard. Does that make sense?

i have made a hello kitty post card but did not what to do with it so im so glad you have made this swap

Thanks, jayeme... I do know what you mean. I think I was just having a cranky moment.... LOL!

I'm sorry I have read "For this swap, you will create 2 handmade postcards and send them naked to 2 partners, with a note written on the back about anything you'd like" 5 times (differently each time) and I can NOT figure out if this swap is for one post card to each partner (total of two cards) or two to each person (total of four cards). Can you please clarify this for me...two or four cards? Thanks

eepy 01/20/2011 #

One to each partner, Turtle... two cards to total.

jayeme 01/20/2011 #

Yes, one to each partner, 2 total! I'll see if I can make it clearer in the swap description; I'm sorry for the confusion!

Antonina 01/21/2011 #

I use to make embroidered cards. Is it suitable for this swap?

jayeme 01/21/2011 #

@Antonina -- yes, that sounds lovely! So long as they are postcard-sized, go ahead :) Any medium and technique is fine!
