The photograph, shot in July 1888 in Brewster, shows an 8-year-old Helen sitting outside in a light-colored dress, holding Sullivan's hand and cradling one of her beloved dolls. Experts on Keller's life believe it could be the earliest photo of the two women together and the only one showing the blind and deaf child with a doll รขโฌโ the first word Sullivan spelled for Keller after they met in 1887 รขโฌโ according to the New England Historic Genealogical Society, which now has the photo. Photo & info from Fox News website. I thought of this swap while waiting at urgent care. The waiting room was beyond sterile, it was bland to all senses. For some reason Helen Keller came to mind, I don't know why. I started to think about exploring the room without sight & hearing. There was no smell and the materials in the room had no interesting texture. I know urgent care isn't supposed to be a garden party, but it really got me thinking. For this swap it's all about touch, smell & taste. TOUCH Make your partners(2) an ATC that is designed to be experienced by touch. Something that is more interesting with your eyes closed. Don't worry about how it looks (colors & patterns but still do your best work), instead focus on how the materials you add feel (textured paper/paint, buttons, fabric, etc). It would be nice if it has at least 2 different textures. SMELL Send your partners(2) something to be experienced through smell. When you close your eyes can you still enjoy it? Scented oil, incense, tealight, perfume, scented paper, sachet, etc. Please choose a reasonably pleasant smell, no skunk bait. You only need to send one(1) scented item. TASTE Send your partners(2) something to be experienced through taste. It doesn't have to be a big item. Some ideas would be gum, candy, spice or seasoning blend, extract, fruit snack/leather, crackers, ramen noodles, jam, tea or cocoa are just some ideas. Please don't send something that will spoil. You only need to send one(1) item to taste. If you have allergies or are really sensitive/picky about smells this swap may not before you. It's sender's choice. Please include a little note about what/why you sent what you did. I'm very excited about this swap!! This should be a fun one to think outside the box. |
