RECYCLE A Cigarette Box {3RD-Edit}

I saw this on the forums last night and have been waiting for it to show up! Finally, a use for all those boxes lol Thanks for doing this!

I'm interested in this swap, but I was wondering- isn't it illegal to mail combustibles (like a cigarette lighter) in the US?

BTW- I think this is a FANTASTIC idea- going green with a cigarette box. Very, very cool!

Yeah, it's illegal to send them through mail, unless you're a business that has the right licenses....

Yes, a very AWESOME idea, we have 14 cigarette boxes in our home every week. I gotta go get some car fresheners!!!!!

What about a cool air freshener instead of the lighter--that would kill the smell and be and added something as well!!

Could it be small earrings or a cloth cigarette case that could be folded up? Does anyone need empties? LOL

@ Everyone-I'm sorry you guys. I had no idea that it was illegal to send a lighter. Thanks so much for signing up anyway, & letting me know it's illegal! You guys are great! I love all your ideas. But I'm still uncertain what I should replace the lighter with... I want to find something we can all agree on. I just don't know what everyone would be happy with. I could say, " ... 1 of these random items: air freshener, cloth cigarette case {that can be folded up}, or small earrings." Or maybe this, "...A small profile surprise that will fit in the box." Or this, "... An item that a cigarette smoker could use" << This sounds a little vague to me though. I guess the most satisfying for everyone would be to say the "small profile surprise" choice. So, that's what I'll edit it to as of now. But if you have any other suggestions, I'm always listening. Thanks again everyone! I appreciate your thoughts & ideas very much!

I like the idea of a small profile surprise. I smoked for a very short time and saved the box from the only pack I ever bought. A lighter can be useful even to those who don't smoke, but most other smoking related items I have no use.

@ halfwaythere: I had considered that idea, actually. I just didn't think anyone would want to do a cigarette box & a matchbox. However, if you see on your partners' profile that they like matchboxes a lot, I guess they wouldn't mind receiving one as their profile surprise.

Maybe I'll do a swap in the future with an altered cigarette box & a matchbox. Also, since matches are a combustible, it would be illegal to send them through the mail.

Is there a way for evryone to specify if they are a smoker or non-smoker? That way no one will be offended with the package that they recieve :0) Been a smoker for a long time.

However, I smoked sweet tobacco Cherry Dreams for less than six months last year. I stopped because I got very sick and puffing another cigarette would cause a relapse. I saved the box because it was glitter red and didn't have a use for it until this swap.

I think a matchbox would be great... maybe for me a Marlboro matchbox (I could send you an empty box of mine, so you could use it to decorate with the brand I like.)

I have mailed matches before, I used them for an I ♥ list swap. I don't think you get busted for them, because they don't blow up... but I am not sure about that!

If not a matchbox, I'd love a box cover, that would be super sweet. My girlfriend smokes too, and that would make her jealous... hehehe

Hi everyone! Checked withthe post office today and they said, as long as the paackage goes by Ground and Not Air. You can mail lighters. Hope that helps:)

Yay! I love lighters! They are useful! Even if you don't smoke. My favorite brand are Bics... But any kind of cool lighter is cool to me!

I quit cold turkey one year ago--with no advanced thinking about it--ran out in the middle of a good college football game and no stores were open, said I would go early in the morning to get some -- then decided not to!!! Had tried to quit several times with various failures--it just worked that time and I have not even WANTED one since. But, my step mother and hubby and youngest son all smoke. They do not bother me. I cannot stand the smell of overflowing ashtrays--but, couldn't handle that even when I was smoking!! Hubby has the best empty hard packs laying around just waiting to be altered!!

@ elizabeth13: That sounds like it was really easy for you! I wish it were that easy for me... I wish I could just quit cold turkey like that. But, I constantly make sure that I have them with me. If I look in my pack, & I only have 5 left, I'm off to the store for more! Plus just about everyone I know smokes, too so there's really no encouragement to stop. But I try to encourage my self to stop anyway. Hope it works for me, like it did for you. Thanks for sharing!

I'm a non-smoker, but the smell of cigarettes from a box will not bother me. I have no allergies that would be encountered in a swap... well, unless you plan on sending me shrimp to eat or something. ;)

I used a cone of insence (don't know if that spelling is anything near right), but you all know what I mean. Warning--altering cigarette boxes can be addictive--I have done three so far and an advertising box we got from the good people at Camel cigs--it has a large cardboard cig lighter in it. I'm really enjoying this!!!! Hope my partner likes these!!!
