About Me

I love so many different crafts, that I rotate through them. I like knitting sweaters; crocheting afghans; sewing adult and doll clothes; navajo weaving and making quilts. I used to make a lot of dolls, but that was mostly when my daughter was young.

I enjoy photography, and I am also a software engineer and work at home. I live in the great southwest, and just love all the sunshine and the beautiful colors here.

Favorite Music

I love 50's and 60's music, and also anything arranged by John Barry. He did the music for movies such as Out of Africa, Somewhere in Time and Dances with Wolves.

Favorite Books

My favorite books are True Crime, although I don't read them very much anymore. Coming in second, are my computer technical books. I love programming, and I learn so much from the authors of these books. I know that sounds boring...

Favorite Movies

I like the movies mentioned in my favorite music. Also, Legends of the Fall, Thelma and Louise, Fried Green Tomatoes, Steel Magnolias, The Bridges of Madison County and Silence of the Lambs.

Favorite Television

I mainly watch movies on LMN, Lifetime Movie Network. HBO puts out some good mini series occasionally that I will like. I also like a lot of movies that are on HBO.

Favorite Crafts

I can't say that I have a favorite craft because I like them all! My latest venture has been Navajo weaving. My dear husband built me a loom according to directions in a Navajo weaving book. Navajo weaving is the only weaving that is done upright. I have made four items out of 100% wool, and they turned out really nice. I also made one for my daughter.

I like making quilts the paper pieced way. I think it's really fun, and accurate, too. The first one I made, I used all of my scrap fabrics so all I had to buy was the backing and fabric for the strips between the squares.

I like receiving fabric, 100% cotton. It is great for crafts, doll clothes and quilts.

I have an embroidery sewing machine that I've used to make quilts for my grandkids. That has been a lot of fun. I can always use more embroidery thread.

I have loved photography since I was a kid. My first camera was purchased for sixty cents and two Cheerios box tops. I like taking portraits the best, and just love the old vintage portraits. I have used my own work in my swaps so far. If you have any blank cards with envelopes, I would love having some of those for printing my own cards.

Last winter I knitted a sweater for myself -- that was a first. I have always knitted sweaters for my kids when they were small and for my grandkids. I love my sweater and plan to make another one this winter. I make my own sweaters out of wool, and for the kids, I use acrylic yarn so they can be washed often.

I usually try to crochet one afghan a year. I have given them all away. I'm considering making one for my bed to go over the quilt that I made, which is multi-color. I have been using acrylic yarn, worsted weight.

I have really enjoyed making doll clothes for my grandkids. A yard or even a half yard of fabric can make one outfit. I am sewing now for the American Girl doll.

I like dolls. I have been working on making one from the Patti Medaris Culea series, "Creative Cloth Doll Making". I have also made many country dolls from the Vogue, McCall's and Simplicity craft patterns. I wouldn't mind receiving one, too!

Likes and Dislikes

I love the full range of the colors pink and purple. I also like turquoise and blue. I am not a fan of red, unless it is a highlight, like for a rose or something. Soft yellows are okay, same with orange.

I really like anything vintage, especially black and white photos that have been toned.

I have scrapbook materials, but have only made several scrapbooks. I would like to make more if I can get excited about an idea. I would love to have one of those little scrapbooks -- the kind with only ten pages and tie with a ribbon.

I would like to have some postcards. I don't have any!

I don't care for child-like decorations or craft supplies. I mainly look for things that are cool and different.

My daughter made me a beautiful apron!
