Hello, I am so glad that I found this website. Here is a little bit about me.
I am a former Marine originally from California but now live in Virginia. I have lived in New Orleans, North Carolina, and a few other places. I am a single parent with 2 grown kids, Angie, who just turned 28. and Benny, who will be 23 soon. I have two crazy cats. Kilo, older female, and Loki, younger male. Sometimes I swear the cats are channeling my kids because there have been times I have gotten all their names mixed up when scolding them.
One of my favorite things I like to do is journaling in my Hobonichi Techo. I use it more like an art journal/diary. And hope it can be used in the future as damning evidence against my kids by my future grandchildren. I try to incorporate a lot of memories as well as current events. It makes for an interesting read.
Many years ago I had joined a Christmas card swap and loved it so much I wanted to continue but with me moving all over the place it didn't work out so well. I have since settled down and would like to reach out again and make new friends from different places.
I can't wait to get started.
I am a mixed media hobbyist and a soft doll maker. In other words, I'm a fabric-aholic with an insane need to hoard all the "pretty" fabric I've collected. I've become worse now that I have decided to start making art journals. I thought I could incorporate my love of fabric with creating art journals. It backfired in the worst way. So now instead of fabric, it's paper, paint, watercolors, markers, colored pencils, and don't even get me started on why I thought getting a die cutting machine was a good thing. I dabble in just about anything crafty and generally make a mess in my craft room and then go back and "clean" it up. I think I enjoy organizing it more than using it. I tried making a card in one day and then spent 2 weekends re-organizing everything. I have a ton of crafty stuff that I don't know what to do with and it seems to be multiplying. Does anyone know how to make the madness stop...or a better way to organize it, just let me know!
I love to read a lot. I mostly prefer Sci-fi/Fantasy books like Ilona Andrews (Kate Daniels series) and Michael Anderle (Kurtherian Gambit series). I love audiobooks as well and have used Audible.com for my collection of audiobooks. I love a good cozy mystery series like Donna Andrews (Meg Langslow series) and prefer it as an audiobook.
I like:
The colors green and blue and any combination of the two
ATC's with personality like steampunk and mixed media
I am partial to tuxedo cats.
Inspirational quote's with "snarcasm"
Poems that make you go "hmm"
Tips about anything. From happy living to how to make my yeast dough rise. (Still having trouble with this one)
The Great British Bake-off (Paul Hollywood especially)
Manga and anime artwork
Native American patterns in turquoise colors
Any Egyptian artwork. Would make an awesome set of ATC cards....
For the most part, I like anything homemade.
The only thing I don't like is loose glitter....it's scary how that stuff gets everywhere and I have two automated garbage collectors, cleverly disguised as tuxedo cats, who would have an issue with it.
