About Me

My sister's call me Newt for short. Not that that has anything to do with me really (but I have three sisters and we have animal nicknames for each of us.) I do NOT have slimy, leathery skin that needs to be wet on a regular basis to keep me alive. On the contrary, I crave warmth and sunshine, would rather wait out dreary and rainy days in bed, and love curling up with tea,a warm blanket and a good book.

Back to the three sisters aspect of me... we all bend toward the creative and that's one of the things I love about hanging out with them. I think I did drive them all crazy when I got married though. Since I was engaged for 2 years while my then fiance studied in CA, I had LOTS of time to DIY everything I possibly could for the wedding. And I did. Yikes, I even scare myself when I think back about it- but I loved doing it!

And I love to bake... I even entertained thoughts of baking my own wedding cake (I'm a perfectionist) but I found someone else I could trust who did it way better than I ever could!

So I'm married to an amazing man who is my best friend, love my family, love doing any and every creative and artistic idea that pops up (which is usually sometime around 12:30am when I should be sleeping but can't because I'm kept up by designs swirling around in my head)...

but the very most important and defining thing about my life is that I am loved by a God who has planned Life for the express purpose that glory and honor be given to His name, simultaneously meeting every true need and desire of those that belong to Him through Christ, to their complete and utter satisfaction.

I'm a joy-filled woman.

Favorite Music

I grew up on the older hymns, so I love those, but have also come to love the contemporary worship music, too... provided that it is not presenting a wishy-washy image of God.

My mom grew up in the 50's so I have a huge love for the rock-n-roll from that era and right on up through the 80's. Not much lost love on a lot of the 90's music through today, though.

I play the guitar and shudder at the thought of playing it in front of people :)

Favorite Books

The Blue Sword has and always will be my very favorite bit of fiction of all time. I read it the first time when I was 12, one of my older sisters got it for me to read when I had to stay in bed cuz I was sick. And now I reread it over and over again... my husband doesn't understand how I can reread something I just read last week.

Thanks to my mommy (who is a librarian now) I grew up on a steady diet of very good literature so and I love Historical Fiction, the older science fiction/fantasy (Lloyd Alexander, George MacDonald, CS Lewis, etc) the older Mary Stewart mysteries (Nine Coaches Waiting), LM Montgomery, Austen, Elizabeth Prentiss.... Non-Fiction: John Piper, John Edwards, John Owen, John MacArthur (thats a lot of Johns), CS Lewis, Elyse Fitzpatrick...

I really like inspiring biographies, too. And if you lose me at the library, I can be found in the children's, cookbook, or craft sections :)

And I grow to love it more daily: The bible ;)

Favorite Crafts

Hmmmm. Don't know quite where to begin so I'll say I love working with fibers of any/every kind that I have encountered. That could be paper, fabric, yarn, wood, flowers, metal, etc. (I know some of those are not "fiber" per se, but you can indulge me and get the picture. - heehee "get the picture"- I'm such a dork!)

I've studied many forms of visual and fine art: drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, graphic art, photography, film-making, animation, and of course my great love of crafts that is a conglomerate of all of the above skills and interests.

So, I knit, crochet, weave, make cards, paint, scrapbook, sew, make jewelry, make hand bags and shoes, remake and refurbish furniture, bookmaking, etc.

I am FAR from accomplished at any one of these things... but I like learning about every new craft and figuring out how to do it, too much to stay too long with one type. I'm just happy to do work that looks beautiful and that I enjoy learning to make for myself and others... and one day I plan to finish all the projects I've started!
