I'm a 47-year-old woman from Rhode Island...that little state tucked under Massachusetts! I'm single (but looking for my Mr. Right) and happily childfree, work at two jobs that I enjoy, and am blessed with a great family, many dear friends, and a comfortable home.
I've always loved sending and receiving mail, have had pen pals all my life, and love anything postal related (funky envelopes, old postage stamps from the US or other countries, personalized stationery, postmarks, rubber stamps, etc.)
I've recently gotten back into "mail art" and have been having fun creating and sending out fun mail to people around the world (through different mail art sites). Of course it's always wonderful to receive amazing mail art in return!
Travel is a passion of mine - visiting other countries, meeting new people, exploring historic sites, just being in another place somewhere on the Earth! I've been fortunate to travel to: London, Paris, Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Venice, Singapore, Bangkok, Burma, Iceland, Vancouver, Ottawa, Toronto, and all over the USA. I'm sure I'm forgetting some places...
New member to Swap-Bot as of November 2010. Looking forward to searching out swaps that appeal to me and flexing those creative muscles. And hopefully making my swap partners happy with what I send them!
My main interest would be swaps related to mail art (swapping post cards, handmade envelopes, stationery, ephemera, stickers, vintage letters, rubber stamps).
I'm not "crafty" as far as knitting or sewing, but I like to think I'm creative and somewhat artistic. I can design and make interesting rubber stamped greeting cards and envelopes, experimenting with simple collages, etc.
Looking forward to sharing with other swappers!
I spend far too much time watching TV...but it's my way of relaxing after a long day and/or night at work. I love coming home and making a nice cup of tea and catching up with my favorite shows. Often I'll be making some handmade envelopes while I watch.
Favorite shows include sitcoms like The Office, Modern Family, Cougar Town. I also like reality shows like Amazing Race, Survivor, Top Chef, Dancing with the Stars, and even the trashier ones like The Bachelor!
I like dramas and cop shows too...such as Hawaii 5-0, The Mentalist, and two out of the three CSI's!
Also hooked on shows like Dexter and Weeds, and the new show Detroit 1-8-7 is really good too!
I'm not really "into" music, although the 2,000+ songs on my iPod would probably make a liar out of me.
Musical tastes are all over the board!
Favorite "old" bands and singers are The Eagles, Tom Petty, AC/DC, Aerosmith, and Bruce Springsteen.
I like everyone from Keb' Mo' to Burning Sky, Kristi Martel to Great Big Sea, and Ian Anderson to Jennifer Lopez. I love Hawaiian music, both traditional/chants and contemporary Hawaiian music. I like housecleaning to disco music, and sappy ballads have been known to make me cry.
Going to the movies on a quiet Saturday afternoon, or by myself on a day off, is one of my favorite things to do!
I see most new releases soon after they come out, except for horror movies. I like romantic comedies, action flicks, Pixar animation, indie films.
Some all time favorites include The English Patient, Die Hard, Sleepless in Seattle, and Love Actually. I also like Corinna, Corinna, Somwhere in Time, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Return to Me.
My favorite crafty type things to do include:
-Rubber stamping. I especially love making cards, although I've been away from it for awhile. But when I get on a roll, I can come up with some cool ideas that fit "my" style. I love adding glittery touches!
-Journaling. I like writing in a journal, and writing in general.
-Making envelopes. My newest way to be creative. Most envelopes made from old maps or magazine pages look cool enough, but sometimes I'll add some doodles with a Sharpie, or embellish with some stickers.
-Watercolor painting and collages. OK, these aren't current crafts I'm involved in, but I love watercolor paintings and want to take a class. I'd also like to explore collage making a little more.
I'm grateful for whatever my swap partners create and select to send me, but to help you out a bit, here are some things I LIKE:
-Colors: black, olive green, earthy colors -Autumn season, cool air, colorful leaves -Journaling, blank books -New Agey stuff, angels, positive affirmations -Candles (favorite scents are lavender, cedar/Christmasy, roses, clean linen) -Sparkly things, glitter, diamonds/rhinestones
NOTE: my likes and dislikes lists are a work-in-progress. As I've started to do some swaps, I realize that lists like these are helpful to your swap partner. I'll add to them as I think of things.
I feel funny listing things I DON'T like, but these are a few things that come to mind:
-Japanese, anime, kawaii, Hello Kitty -Cutesy things/kid stuff -Vampires, Twilight, Harry Potter -Stuffed animals -Colors: pink, yellow, most blues -Candy, most sweets -Coffee - don't drink it, don't like the smell -Scents I don't like: hazelnut, baby powder, sweet smells
