It was not until I was in college that I decided to read the Lord of the Rings series and The Hobbit. I watched the movies while reading the trilogy. I did enjoy reading the books more than I thought and still trying to read other books Tolkien wrote.
In 1971 I discovered The Hobbit shortly after I finished Watership Down. (My sister had recommended both books.) I will forever link the two in my mind even though Watership was written in 1970 and The Hobbit was an old book dating from 1937.
In 1977 Rankin/Bass produced an animated Hobbit for TV. The characters look nothing like the live action characters of the 2012-2014 films.
The only thing they seem to have in common is all that hair.
I still have this 2 page layout I found in TV guide safely tucked it in my copy of The Hobbit.
Peter Jackson's films are lavish and sprawling with characters that have depth beyond the book at times. (I just wish he hadn't had to make 3 movies out of it when 2 would have worked.)
I managed to read all of Tolkien's books at least once. And I have seen all of the movies at least once. But what I think I loved the most about them all was the Shire architecture. I want a house in the hillside.
Frodo: I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil
Hi Ros! Thanks so much for the cool prize packet for July Butterfly Bingo. I will definitely use the things you picked out for me. Thank you again for hosting. I really enjoyed the Aussie butterflies! Kiss your sweet grandbaby!
