As a total solar eclipse reaches ever-closer towards totality, your surroundings begin to change. Colors begin to lose their contrast and shadows on the ground become much sharper. One of the most noticeable effects are the little crescent shadows that appear. Anything that can cast a shadow while allowing small amounts of sunlight to peer through can create this effect. Trees tend to be good at showing this off quite nicely. So don't just look up, look down. And enjoy.
I love summer fruits and grow several here in NYC (backyard) plums, apricot, strawberry , blackberry and tomato. I also visit the green grocer often and farmers markets., we have any here. Raspberries grew the best and now we are awaiting tomatoes. Enjoy the bounty of the
I thought about my childhood and what fruits we had then during the Summer. It was not like it is today with all sorts of "exotic" fruits available year round.
We picked blackberries in the wild keeping a keen eye out for rattlesnakes, who like to lurk among the briars waiting for an unwary bird to get too close.
We grew strawberries for ourselves and to sell. We made a game of throwing the rotten ones at each other while we picked (Mother was NOT amused).
We would eat watermelon straight from the field until we were about to burst. Somehow they were always so cool inside no matter how hot the day.
