soooo..... after reading some of the other profiles on here (yes, I really take the time to do that), I realize that mine is really pretty boring. So I am going to add to it.
I am a 50-something wife, mom and grandma. All of my family calls me Yaya since my granddaughters were born. The "YayaStitches" comes from of course, Yaya (grandma in Greek, even though we are not of Greek descent, I just liked it and my kids say it fits me better than any of the other grandma-names) and I love to cross-stitch, so there you have it.
I love to hang out with my kids and grandkids. I work fulltime at an HR company. My DH and I are owned by two crazy cats and one more who wanders up and down the neighborhood. I enjoy cooking and finding new recipes. My favorite color is purple!
I listen to pretty much anything except rap. I especially enjoy classic rock and country. I like to have music that I can sing along with, and I have not found any rap that I can sing along with. Just give me some Journey or some Bob Seger and I am happy.
I will read anything except romance novels. My favorite authors are James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, John Grisham, etc. Romance novels are too predictable for me. She either picks hunk A or hunk B. Murder mysteries and thrillers are always full of surprises, if they are well written. I especially love it when I simply cannot figure out who the bad guy is.
My top five in random order: The Fifth Element, Wizard of Oz, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, PS I Love You, and Grease. The Fifth Element is such a simple love story: true love saves the world. I like to think that when (notice I did not say IF) the aliens come, it will be more like Close Encounters than War of the Worlds. PS I Love You is just a wonderful movie. He set all that up just to show his love! Wizard of Oz and Grease are just great FEEL GOOD movies for me. I watch them when I need a pick-me-up.
The Closer (sorry to see Brenda Leigh go!), both NCIS, original CSI (Las Vegas), Major Crimes, Rizzoli & Isles, Bones... also love Suits, Covert Affairs and White Collar.
I am an avid cross-stitcher. Please visit the link I have provided for pictures of some of my work. I wish I had more time to work on some of my projects, but life gets in the way and I have to pick up time as I can.
I love little kits, and big kits, and do-it-yourself kits... or just floss or fabric or patterns... I prefer 28 ct evenweave over any other fabric. Aida is just too stiff. Evenweave is soft. I do not like linen though.
Since I am just starting out, I guess I could use stickers, notecards, blank postcards etc. Just whatever I might need for a swap! My favorite color is purple.
Of course, I can ALWAYS use those little bitty cross-stitch kits that make ornaments or magnets! Maybe if you send me one I will stitch it up and send it back to you.
Here is a list of other things that come to mind as I go through life:
My granddaughters areMarleigh 3 1/2 and Madisyn 4 1/2, and they LOVE LOVE LOVE stickers! They do not care what is on them, they just love to stick them anywhere ... my entire house would be a forest of stickers if I am not careful!
I also have a niece Emily who is ten. She loves books and drawing and she would love a penpal.
Okay, I confess that this makes me go "hmmmm..." At the time I write this, I have not participated in a swap yet, but I am looking forward to doing so.
I am really curious about this. It's just such a cool word!!!! :)
Please do not send me anything that has a fragrance to it... I should have put that in to start with but I didn't think of it. My husband has a condition where he has a super-uber-sensitive sense of smell, and I have to be very careful what I allow in the house or he develops horrible headaches. While I personally LOVE scented candles and incense and body lotions/perfumes, he cannot handle them.
