Hi, I'm a 40-something female from a relatively small town near Reno, Nevada. Originally from Michigan, I moved Central Oregon in 1995, and have since spent time in California, Utah, and Nevada as well. I work full time nights as a nurse in a small community hospital. I have one son (soon to be 18), husband, and dog. My biggest passion right now is traveling; I'm lucky enough to be able to plan one or two trips a year to new places. The only problem being that each time I go somewhere new, I want to go the same place again and again!
I like all kinds of music; as a teenager growing up in Michigan, I grew up on Rock music (Bob Seger, Foreigner, Chicago, etc), but since having moved west, I've gotten to love country music as well. My favorites are Brad Paisley, Toby Keith, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, & Martina McBride. Even as un-cool as it is, I have to admit I like musical theater and show tunes, especially from the classics like Rodgers & Hammerstein.
Gosh, where do I start when it comes to books? The greatest invention ever made is the Amazon Kindle, (an e-book reader), and I have used mine every day and evening since I got it almost 2 years ago. I will read almost anything...and I mean anything! I like mysteries, romances, some science fiction, vampire stories, horror stories, erotica, etc. I guess I can't really say I'll read anything, because I'm not really interested in political books. Right now, I'm going through a historical romance phase. Granted there might not be a lot of reality in romances, but the historical parts are interesting!
Movies...hmmm...I haven't seen as many movies for the last few years as I used to because it's about a 30 mile drive to the nearest decent movie theater. That's what you get when you live in a small town! But there's always NetFlix and Blockbuster! Anyway, I guess I'd say action and/or suspense movies are my favorite. Some romance movies are okay, and mysteries are fun sometimes, too. The last movies I saw were Quantum of Solace (Daniel Craig, yum!) and RocknRolla (Gerard Butler, yum, yum, yum!)
I don't watch much television due to working nights, but when I do, I enjoy the more 'reality' based shows; but not like Survivor or Big Brother. Think shows on A & E, like Forensic Files, The First 48, sometimes CSI. I also enjoy BBC America depending what is on; I enjoy Robin Hood Prince of Thieves just for pure laugh out loud entertainment value.
My favorite crafts generally involve paper. I really enjoy rubber stamping because I can make something artistic looking without being very artistic myself. I also like art journals, mail art, making ATC's, and photography. I love seeing what other people do with their online blogs, but haven't yet gotten up the guts to actually start one myself. I recently joined PostCrossing (which isn't really a craft, I guess) but am enjoying getting cards from around the world. I'd like to get more into having penpals again, which I haven't done since I was a child. It's hard to have close friends when your schedule is the opposite of everyone else's in the civilized; and if you spend 12-13 hours a day with people you work with, you don't necessarily want to spend your free time with them! I'd also like to exchange craft supplies with people, since I've got an awful lot that I know of, and probably lots more that I've forgotten about!
