Hi reader of my profile, I am Kara. I live in Montrose, Colorado...a tiny cowtown on the western slope of Colorado. I am originally from Saint Louis, Missouri and have lived in several large cities, so this country livin' is a big change for me. I feel that I am taking it in stride and accepting it well. Small towns are places to grow...there is a lot of time to yourself and lot of introspection.
My house is a bit crooked...makes me wonder if Tim Burton had anything to do with the architectural plans. My birthday is August 12th, and I am a Leo true to my lioness nature!
My partner and I are foster parents. We have two kiddos right now: a 17-year old boy and a one year old baby girl that we have had for 7 months now. Quite a combo, huh? They are both equally challenging to say the least!
I am currently getting ready to attend school in the fall. I have decided that I would finally like to finish my degree. I have junior status so I might as well, right? I am obtaining my degree in Biology with an emphasis on either Ethnobotany, Environmental Sciences, or Horticulture. This is going to sound way out there, but I hope to some day join a...um...how do I say this...a collective living community...otherwise known as a commune in the 60s. I want to live off the land, grow my own food, sew my own clothes, barter services with others, live with like-minded people. This world has just gotten too crazy for me-I want to retreat to the woods!
Anyhow, that is the tip of the iceberg of ME! I am looking forward to swapping some sweet stuff with other people and get some inspiration to learn and create new things. Onto greener pastures...
Who does not love music? I, personally, am a big fan. First and foremost-Incubus. Sarah McLachlan, Fleetwood Mac, FrouFrou, Solillaquists of Sound, Common Market, Tegan and Sara, Ani DiFranco, Corinne Bailey Rae, India Arie, Chris Pureka, Tori Amos, Coldplay, James Morrison...just to name a few. I am not ashamed to admit it: my all-time favorite genre of music is the 80s. Rad! I also love Classic Rock. I love to listen to Pandora, discover new music, and listen to themed music that matches what I am cooking for dinner.
Eat, Pray, Love, The Celestine Prophecy, The Alchemist by Paolo Coehlo, The Shack, You Can Heal Your Life, The Lighworker's Way, Harry Potter Series, To Kill a Mockingbird, Rumi, The 80/10/10 Diet. Back in the day I loved Beverly Cleary and Judy Blume books!
I heart movies! Goonies, The Princess Bride, Amelie, Sixteen Candles and Breakfast Club (love the Brat Pack and John Hughes movies), The Big Lebowski, Big Fish, Fried Green Tomatoes, When Harry Met Sally, Shawshank Redemption, Stranger Than Fiction, Cinderella, The Sandlot, Meet the Parents/Fockers, Along Came Polly, Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, The Royal Tenenbaums. And of course...80s movies!
I do not own a television. I vowed not to own a TV again because I do not want to waste my life staring into a box...I already live in a box and drive a box.

(leave a nice comment swap) I really love the fact that you are a foster parent. It takes a lot of love and patience. And way to go on going back to school. Knowledge is power! :)
besides being a fellow Fleetwood mac fan, W ehave a lot in common. Me and The Boy are seriously considering going fully green and the idea of a commune sounds like an amazing place to live, grow and nuture our future children and really appeals to us as well :-) I also have a friend who is a Raw food Vegan ( i hope that is the right term ) and I have found some really amazing recipes from her. :-)
Hellooo! It's really great that you're going back to school soon, I am as well and couldn't be more excited to finish my degree. I also love most of the movies you listed! Have a great day :)
Not yet, but it might be in my mailbox right now. I haven't been home since this morning :)
