I live in Australia. I'm studying to be a dietitian/nutritionist. I love making stuff!
I like all sorts of music. The most recent CDs I've bought are Contra by Vampire Weekend and Kings and Queens by Jamie T. Some of my favourite musicians are Paul Kelly, Regina Spektor, Amanda Palmer and The Herd. I like songs that tell a story or convey meaning to me.
I love books!!! I just got a new bookcase and it is marvelous. Some of my favourite books are the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling, the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, the Corrina Chapman series by Kerry Greenwood, the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman, books by Maggie Alderson, books by Jeffrey Archer, adventure novels by Clive Cussler, picture books by Shaun Tan, the list goes on.
The Royal Tennebaums, Finding Nemo. The Castle. The Italian Job.
I have a wide range of crafting pursuits. My favourites are art quilting, making fabric books, freeform knitting and crochet, making softies, and embroidery.
I'm new to this game so I'm not really sure what sort of things people usually send. But anyway:
I collect clothing tags/business cards/other cardboardy things... basically anything that can be used as a bookmark. So it'd be cool to receive some tags/bookmarks from other countries and other people's lives.
I'm interested in ATCs, although I've only ever made one (a fabric one). But the size of them is about all my drawing skills can handle on one theme. So I'm interested in getting into that.
I'd love to receive scraps of fabric from other places. I'm focusing on smaller projects at the moment (I used to be into patchwork but am getting into art quilting) so any scraps are welcome.
I do freeform knitting and crochet and love playing with yarn. Doesn't matter what sort of fibre, synthetic or natural, or blends. As long as it can either be knitted or crocheted.
I would quite like to receive photos or drawings. I love seeing other people's art and being inspired by it.
Apart from that, I'd also like letters from penpals from all different backgrounds. I find people fascinating.
Hmmm... more about my likes and dislikes? My favourite colour is blue. I like reading and have a broad selection of books on my bookshelves. I also like reading magazines - craft/arty ones or surfing ones. Not gossip/celebrity/fashion/womens ones. I like cooking so any recipes particularly for cakes/sweets/desserts would be good. I'm not allergic to any foods but don't like coffee. I collect anything that can be used as a bookmark (i.e. flat card) as well as interesting postcards and birthday cards. I have a scrapbook I keep all these sorts of things in and like to flip through it as a sort of history lesson of current times. I'm pretty much open to any sort of art but particularly like landscapes and things that have strange juxtapositions in them. I do a lot of quilting (mainly art quilting and wallhangings), embroidery and freeform knitting. So any supplies would be great. Things like buttons, embroidery threads, scraps of fabric (any size, most of my work is small-scale), yarns, patterns (not clothing but things like quilt patterns/ideas, or soft toy patterns) are probably the most usable. I usually find I am inspired by the materials I have to anything to add to my stash would be appreciated. I absolutely DISLIKE the Harry Potter movies and feel they irrevocably spoil my enjoyment of the books, so please nothing HP movie related. I like watching videos on Youtube and finding new comedy/parodies and also awesome guitar soloists. I am learning guitar so any basic beginner music pieces would be cool. Any other sort of groovy small found objects would be good too, things like tiny toys (think Lego men), springs, keyboard keys, and other junk like that would be pretty exciting to get. Also I love pictures of stuff, from magazines or newspapers, or even photographs or specifically made stuff.
