I'm a busy mom of an almost two year old, with a great husband who works ALOT!! He's a veterinarian so we have two dogs and two cats (ARgh). I used to teach kids with special needs and now am a stay at home mom who babysits and works at a little convenience store to add to the family bacon pot. I knit for pleasure and to sell (though mostly just to support my yarn habit). I also do a bit of sewing; simple stuff usually as I'm a bit of a beginner. I do love designing things and tend to knit "off the cuff" and write it down as I go. I have been experimenting with color lately and have been trying to buy colors that I don't normally get drawn to. I've been having fun buying brighter tones and playing with them.
Crafts I love to do: Knitting!!!!! - This is where my heart really lies. It's not often that I don't have one of my projects with me.
Spinning - Yup, a little old school love. Still a beginner but I love it!
Sewing - Still figuring it out, but I've come up with some lovely, useful patterns that are great!
Crafts I love that other people do:
Pretty much anything! I love to see what other people find beautiful and inspiring. I also love to see how people combine colors, shapes, and textures to create their art. Papercrafts amaze me because I haven't done a lot with them.
Well, I definitely love warm tones. Oranges, and burgundies definitely catch my eye. I look better in blues, browns, and black but heck, most of the stuff I make isn't for me anyway!! I am trying to break out of my color monotone so anything goes!
I love love love love soft natural fibers!!! Malabrigo and Blue Sky Alpacas organic cottons are my two die hards to use in my own knitting. Cascade's Eco Duo is a new addition to my love list. I'm experimenting with chunky yarns and sock weight yarns these days. I know, two ends of the spectrum but I'd never actually played with them! I don't often use acrylics though blends have been added to the use lists lately.
lace shawl beret hat (Complete, pattern has been posted on my blog) Ponchos for all the girls in baby group
I love handmade stuff!!! Love a postcard or note that someone took the time to make interesting and delightful. I love rich, saturated color and cannot wear beige at all!
I'm not super into cutesy or country, but I'm not ultra modern either. I like a vintage look and mission/craftsman style is super attractive to me as well. I'm also into functional but beautiful things.
My son, Oliver, will be two at the end of February. He's a pretty awesome kid who is very into vehicles. He is especially in love with trains and "Play Thomas" is a phrase often heard in our house. He's not quite ready for lollipops and other hard candy, but he does like a little chocolate here and there. He likes to color and build "gigantic towers" with his blocks. He loves animals, books, and potty training!
I am a lover of stories. My father is a storytelling artist and I grew up asking for "more stories please". I have dreams of writing children's books someday and have written some, though not done anything with them as of yet.
My favorite books and authors (in no particular order):
anything by Pat Conroy anything by Louisa May Alcott Laura Ingalls Wilder L.M. Montgomery A Little Princess In the Night Kitchen Robert McCloskey Jodi Picault Chaim Potok Harry Potter series Jane Eyre Pride and Predjudice Edith Wharton Gary Paulsen (if you haven't read Winter Dance, you should)
this list could go on and on, you get the basic idea!
