Hi, My name is Rachel and I love to make quilts and sew and am a bit of a fabric hoarder. I wish I had more time to sew but I've got two little kids and I also work freelance at home so I find it hard to get much me-time. But whenever I do, you can find me sitting in front of my sewing machine, browsing the internet gathering inspiration, or crafting of some sort. I love handmade stuff and the time spent doing so. That is my piece of heaven.
The farmer's wife 1930 is the first QAL I've participated in, and I love the fact that I can sew (or feel pressured to sew) a little every week. I feel that much I can fit into my schedule with no problem.
My favorite blocks from the QAL so far are #2 Aimee, #57 Margaret, #1 Addie, and #46 Jewel
I like modern fabric from modern designers and I love a bit of whimsy. (Lizzy House, Heather Ross, Carolyn Friedlander, all the Cotton + Steel lines) I also sometimes go for fabric lines with a vintage vibe to it like the ones from Denyse Schmidt.
I love prints but I also love the simplicity and cleanness/ modern look of quilts made with solids.
I tend to use soft pastel colors but that's probably because I've been making baby quilts lately.
some random fabric related stuff I like: combination of aqua and orange, ombre colors on quilts, usage of essex yarn dyed linen, kona wasabi, kona ash, kona sage...
I don't really like brownish or heritage colored traditional fabric or batiks.
I am a fan of fussy cutting and small blocks.
I like making stuff that I can actually use so I've made my share of zippered bags and pouches.
