Comment: I'm on my blackberry typing this, so it won't let me give a heart...but everyone should know that this swap was worth 3 HEARTS!!! I loved your art style, your raw sarcasm, the trippy hippy envelope in my favorite colors, and the extra polaroid (which I collect!). I'm not sure if you took extra care to my profile, or if we're just kindred spirits, but once things calm down in my life a bit, I would LOVE the chance to trade zines with you regularly! :) ~Helena8664

Jesshens1125 rated for Angry Letters...SENT! on Oct 16, 2009
5
rating
Comment: The traditional thing to say here is thank you for the letter! lol but since it was angry... none the less, good job on the letter! I halfway think the other half of this swap should have been for our partners to send these letters on to who they were written for. Michelle sounds annoying! lol Thanks hun!!
Response: Hahaha! Michelle is probably both more and less annoying in person than she is as portrayed in my letter. She is more annoying in her whininess, which doesn't come through in writing, and although it's not her "fault," really, it was always disconcerting to me that she was a valued employee despite a lotta unprofessional, silly behavior. She is possibly less annoying than my letter gets across in that she is "nice" and "friendly" -- but just not in a way that I value. Many thanks, Jesshens. -- reds

Comment: Wow! What a great package! As soon as I took it out of my PO box, I was smiling at the label you made for it. The extras are really cool and I can't wait to see how they all tie in with the journal. I only had time today to read the first few pages so I am very anxious to read more tomorrow. I love the little wind up crab! I'm a Cancer so I have a fondness for them :) Everything is just really cool! I can't wait to listen to the mix tape - will probably put that on tomorrow as I'm cleaning. I could go on and on here so maybe I'll just PM you and wrap this up :) I do want to add that I really love how you filled the pages. I'm really looking forward to sitting down tomorrow with a cup of tea and your journal :) Thank you so much for everything!!
Response: Sometimes I wonder whether I am OVERfilling the pages with an amount of writing that overwhelms the person who's on the receiving end of a journal I've made. Glad to know that you're pleased that the pages were filled.

Comment: Thanks for the letter. Your penmanship is really good and im jealous of it. Hope your situation improves with the job from hell.
Response: In first grade, I was jealous of a classmate's penmanship that the teacher said was so good that he didn't have to do handwriting lessons at all, and got to draw and read and stuff while the rest of us were forming letters. If I'm lucky (and optimistic) I figure the job situation can only improve from here.

Comment: Hi, there!! I wanted to give you extra stars for bringing back so many of MY memories..I grew up in the Washington Metropolitan area, I have lived in Vienna, VA, Centreville, and Warrenton, VA, and in Germantown and Gaithersburg, MD...my husb. was born and raised in Silver Spring, and our children were born at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, and Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring. I remember all of these events very well, I was born in '64, so only a few years older than you....My husb. used to work for the EPA near Main Ave., and rode the metro every day...I knew exactly what you were talking about when you mentioned Arlington, and the more "unique" state of the shops there, etc...And I remember crusing down 14th and K Streets when we were teenagers, gazing out at the "ladies of the evening" and their "gentlemen friends"...remember when the DC Police made a "forced march" of the prostitutes across the bridge into Arlington? That was amazingly weird....I bet you remember it, though....hahaha... I remember going to the 9:30 club to see punk rock bands, too....remember that? Is "Commander Salamander" (the shop) still on the hill in Georgetown? Len Bias was a really big story for those of us who grew up there, not sure if the rest of the country heard much about it...my husb. still talks about it to this day!! I was working as a Sheriff's Deputy for Fairfax County when the Challenger exploded... We have a lot in common!! Thanks so much for the walk down memory lane!! Your swap pal, Sandi
Response: I DO remember the "forced march" of the prostitutes into Virginia! And one of the memories I did not include is another one that is D.C.-specific, though the rest of the country became aware of it -- the night that Mayor Barry was captured on videotape in the Vista Hotel on M Street, smoking crack and failing to "get lucky" with a female friend who was complying with the FBI in their sting operation. Yes, I went to the 9:30 Club to see bands. It still exists in name, but is now at 8:15 V Street, NW (a much larger space, but less "funky," and with a substantially smaller population of rats in the adjacent alley. I believe Commander Salamander is still in Georgetown, but cannot swear to that being the case. I seldom bought anything there, but used to help myself to the free promotional buttons that they kept in a candy jar on the counter near the front of the store. Many thanks for the rating, the heart and (especially) your comments. -- Reds

Comment: Thanks for your letter & your writing history -- yes letter writing is a valid pursuit itself and I can see why you're into it.. This was a good letter. As another transcriptionist I can say that as a occupation it doesn't pay very well or have much of a future but it can give you quite a broad view of how the world works. It's been a post-grad education for me. I hope you enjoy it too.
Response: The variation among the transcription work I've done -- hearings, government investigations, criminal interrogations and more -- has indeed provided me with a broad view of how various "worlds" work. -- Reds.

Comment: Thank you so much for the lovely bars, especially the organic ones. And I love lip balm, so thanks for the extra Burt's Bees treat! Welcome to swap-bot!
Response: You're welcome -- and thanks for your welcome to swap-bot. In sending the bars, I stayed away from sending stuff I know is ubiquitous here, and I'd imagine in most parts of Canada. Ghiradelli chocolate, when I visited San Francisco some years ago, was new to me at the time, but is much more widely distributed now than it was at the time, and it's certainly (still) less often seen than are Hershey and Mars brand chocolates. The roseberry bar, I thought was potentially interesting, but after I bought it I noted that it came from the U.S. state of Washington or Oregon and thought it might be much better known in western Canada than it is on the east coast of the U.S. -- Reds

Comment: Okay you do know the swap was for 3 items, not ELEVEN (if you count the 4 Sharpies individually), lol. Thanks so much!! It really made my day... the markers are colors Im always running low on... mmm the moleskin, devine. The Spree's Im snacking on as I type and the giraffe notecard is just too precious NOT to keep for myself. Also kudos for including a NOTE... so many people dont do that and its nice to know where ea. thing came from on its way to me. VERY IMPRESSED!! Thanks bunches!! If I could give a heart for each item, I would.
Response: Aw, you're welcome. The note -- I'm glad I included it. I neglected to have included one in the package I sent to my other partner for this swap. D'oh! I like that giraffe card, too. The company that makes 'em has a lot of animal cards I like -- and I'm kinda particular when it comes to which animal-related stuff I like.
