Description:

RAK = Random Act of Kindness

This swap is an experiment. It doesn't follow the normal guidelines of Swap-Bot swaps. You may or may not send to the person you are matched up with. Instead you'll send to someone who wants what you have.

Most crafters end up stocking up on a little too much of some supply. For me, that has been beads and fibers. I know I have too many beads because when I go to find some beads to use for a project, it takes more time to sort through my beads than it does to complete the project!

In this swap, you have the opportunity to get rid of some of those extras that get in your way. When you sign up, make a comment with the following information: 1. I have . . . (complete with a list of items you are willing to pass on to the other swappers). 2. I want . . . (complete with a few craft supplies you would like).

On November 15th when Swap-Bot sends you an e-mail to let you know you have a partner for this swap, disregard the partner you've been matched up with. Instead, come here and see what other swappers are looking for. Choose 1 or more people to send to. E-mail me with the name(s) of the people you are going to send to and I will send you their snail mail addresses. I'll keep track of who is sending to who so that everyone ends up getting something.

When you receive your item(s), please post here or e-mail me. I will also keep track of who does or doesn't follow through. I don't want people signing up for this thinking it's a great way to receive things without sending.

If this goes well, I want to host one of these swaps each month or so. For this first time, the swap is limited to Canada, U.S., and Mexico. I think it'll be a big job keeping track of sends and receives locally. I'll add international folks next time if tracking is easier than I expect.

I have created a group on Gather.com -- http://swappers.gather.com -- where I'll post a list of who is sending to who and will update it throughout the swap.

Please post if you have any questions. I hope this will be a fun swap for everyone!

  1. I have fibers, beads, confetti, shipping tags, magazines (for collage images) and a few other embellishment items that are overflowing my craft room.
  2. I want fabric that would be fun to paint on, any kind of paints -- even kid's paints, glitter paints, finger paints, etc. Cut wood pieces in shapes of flowers, leaves, or other natural items, skeins of yarn for knitting projects.

Hmmm... This sounds like an interesting idea. I'm in Montreal, so I'll join in. :)

  1. I have fabric (mostly cheery or pretty ones for quilts), ribbon and lots of bias tape / hem facing / quilt binding notions. I also have foam stars and hearts (different colours and sizes), buttons (mostly "basic" ones), old greeting cards, raffia and wire.

  2. I'd love to get good thread, novelty fabric or ribbon, unique buttons, rubber stamps and/or ink pads. I also need pinking shears and a good rotary cutter but don't expect anyone to get me those! :D

Ashley, I think I have some wood pieces in flower shapes... I'll check. I know I have a bunch of different wood pieces still in their packages.

I have a question about the ratings. I am not sure how that is going to work. Are we not going to worry about them at all? If that is the case that's cool, but what if our partner wants to be mean and leave a bad one because we chose not to send to them? I guess I'm just unsure about that and don't want to hurt my own rating just because it's not clear. Other than that I love the idea of this swap and hope to be able to join because I have a need for many things and have stashes of stuff I'll never use!!

Hi, Fairykiss. I don't expect any ratings to be left. I suppose if someone ends up sending to the partner they are assigned to just because they happen to have something that person wants, the receiver may leave a rating. But no one should leave a bad rating if they don't get someone they are matched up with.

Hi, I have tons of fabric, buttons, beads, and fibers. I am looking for nice holiday images for use on atc's or collage/altered books. For example, foreign travel, snowmen, hearts, bunnies, women, quotes, etc. Please send only pictures you would be willing to use. Thanks:) Also would be interested in receiving fibers or cute shaped eyelets.

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to drop out of this swap. (Too much going on.) :( Maybe next time! :)
