Description:

I've seen lots of amigurumi lately on different websites and boy are they cute. So, one night I decided to try one and it WAS cute! It only took about an hour, too. So I thought, let's try to make these together!

For this swap you will have one partner and you will make one amiguumi and send it. You will be rated on if you send, not on how well it turns out. This is an attempt for us to try something new! For hearts you can send along a copy of the pattern you followed to make it. It can be any animal or inanimate object you chose to make. You can knit or crochet it.

For examples and some cute free patterns see the lion brand yarn website and type in amigurumi. You'll find tons of free patterns!

So, what will you make? Turtle? Fish? Bird? Cupcake? Be creative and have fun!

Because amiguumi can be pretty small I will allow this swap to be international. Newbies allowed, but profiles must be filled out. I reserve the right to ban questionable swappers.

Tell here what you think you might make and what kind of yarn you'll use. I made a bluebird of cotton dishcloth yarn, but I want to try the frog, turtle or penguin next. They are all so cute!

It takes me about an hour just to get a magic ring going, and I haven't even made it as far as making an actual item! Of course, I didn't know how to crochet before I started, either. I'm in. My crochet hooks are gathering dust, so this will force me to keep trying. I have a pattern for a mushroom that I would like to try. As for yarn, I'll wait for partners to be assigned and then pick a color my partner likes.

I like to personalize my swaps so I'll read my partner's profile first. Hopefully, they'll have colors listed, as well as, a few critters or something else I could use. I have a link to amigurumi pattern lists and makers on my blog....under 'good places...'

You can also find lots of free patterns through crochet pattern central.

Has anyone seen these sweet patterns: http://www.sarahanns.com/crochetworks/cwhome.html?

is it possible to sew one 'cos i cannot crochet?

I've only made three little bunnies but they were made without a pattern, can we join if we use our own design and no pattern that someone else made?

kgeslab 03/25/2008 #

Yes, you may use your own pattern, but I'm afraid they must be either knit or crochet - no sewing - that would be a stuffie or feltie I think. What does everyone think?

yarnigras 03/25/2008 #

I agree, amigurumi is crochet and knit.

Oh my goodness what have I got myself into! LOL! I have not crochet in a long time. I am going to have to dig out my crochet hooks and find an easy pattern. I have never done anything like this only easy blankets. lol! Who ever gets me as a partner don't panic at the above, I will come through for you even if I have to make a 100 of them to get it right. LOL! or decent looking. LOL!

don't fret lmdesign.....we all started somewhere! some of my first ones were seriously awful looking!

Thanks yarnigras, I was trying it out last night and it won't be as bad as I thought. I almost finished one last night but did not have the little eyes to put in before I closed it and stuffed it. I will get those today and finish it up. It is turning out really cute. I think I am going to buy more yarn today to try more out. I am hooked! LOL! My daughter saw it and now wants to learn. When I finish this one I am going to show her how to make one. So glad I joined, it's nice to try something new. :-) I am a self taught crocheter and the only other crocheting I have done was baby blankets for my children and one for my husband while we were dating (first one I ever did). It's nice to pick it up again.

Oh yes I just remembered I have made some dishcloths a couple of years ago for Christmas gifts. I really like washing my dishes with crochet or knitted dishcloths. :-)

This post goes with my post above. lol!

Imdesign: That is just what happened to me. I saw a pattern and said, "What the heck, i'll give it a try" and now i can't put it down. It's easy, fun and SO cute! What did you make for your first? Mine was a bird.

lmdesign7 04/ 2/2008 #

Hi kgeslab, I am making the little alien from the lion yarn website. Did not get to finish it yet. I could not find the eyes it called for so am going to use buttons. I bought a ton of yarn and am going to try out some other ones. I think I am going to make my way down the list of free patterns at the lion website. They are all so cute! Where did you get your bird pattern from? I am sure it is adorable. :-) My daughter is really excited to learn. This will be fun for both of us to do together. I would love to see what everyone does. I wonder how that would work? I will post the ones I make on my blog. Talk to you later. :-)

I got my pattern from the lion brand website, too! It's a bluebird!

I love this discussion. I have been wanting to do this for a while. I've made knitted toys before. I found some cute pattern sites but not sure what I want to do yet. I will probably just use plain old worsted-weight or sportweight yarn. I hope that's okay. I don't do a lot of knitting or crocheting so don't make the investment in yarn.

This is perfect timing as I will have a school term break before send date. I haven't signed up for any crafting swaps (aside from ATCs) because of that.
