Description:

Buy or make a pocket-sized notebook or sketchbook that consists of at least 20 pages.

Put your name, address and email (in case you move) on the inside of the back cover and a note asking that the book be returned to you once full.

Fill one page anywhere in the book with quotes, a poem, a sketch, anything you please. Fill both the front and back of that page. Then mail it to your swap partner.

Once a month or so I will post another swap of this type so that the people that get the books can do a page in the book they got and send it on to someone else. Hopefully after a while we all start getting neat little booklets back in the mail filled to the brim.

Will you Angel for this swap if someone flakes?

MunsterNCookie13 03/13/2013 #

Is the size 3x5 ?

Miange 03/13/2013 #

Pocket sized as in? 4x6, 3x5 or just small in general like that?

cynaemon 03/13/2013 #

How about only 12 pages, as that will take a full year with just once a month. I don't really want to commit to more time than that.

MunsterNCookie13 03/13/2013 #

@cynaemon if there's 20 pages then we only do 10 cause we do the front and back so we will do 2 when we get the journal/notebook. Make sense?

thelittledreamcatcher 03/13/2013 #

For the suceeding swaps of this, we will not anymore leave our details on the notebook we got from this swap right? We will just fill and fill and then when the very last person fills the last page, he/she will resend it back to me?

barterartistmel 03/14/2013 #

@MunsterNCookie13 and @Miange anything under 5x5 for size, lightweight for lower shipping costs. @cynaemon 20 pages with doing front and back leaves 10 pages. @LindaRichard yes i will angel if someone doesn't come thru. (this is my first hosted swap, how long do you suggest before i step in?) @thelittledreamcatcher - correct, future swaps will say to put the name and address if new, and not to if you have a swapped book in your possession. I know there are a few book swappings on here so if you get the chance you can always pass it along thru one of those as well, doesn't have to be a swap arranged by me as long as the rules are similar.

barterartistmel 03/14/2013 #

Also, note to everyone - if you want to make a book that has more pages than 20 you are welcome to do so. Obviously it will take longer to get back to you, but you can also host your own book swaps with the books to get the process going a bit faster. I just decided to post one monthly to allow for shipping.

latinmermaid 03/14/2013 #

Hello! I'd love to join this, but the smallest notebook that I've been able to find where I live is 3.5x5.5in and 64 pages (it's still thin, one of those moleskin ones). Could I still join?

barterartistmel 03/14/2013 #

@ latinmermaid yep, close enough. as long as you dont mind that with that many pages it will take a while to get back to you. maybe put a note in telling people they can fill 2 pages front and back if they want if you want it to circulate faster...

Miange 03/14/2013 #

I have one more question, being this is my first journal book swap, how will we know who to send the book that we have received to next?

Miange 03/14/2013 #

Ignore my last question, I answered it :)

cynaemon 03/17/2013 #

Mine is 5 1/2 X 6. Is that still too big? I can cut it down to 5 x 6. Thanks

barterartistmel 03/18/2013 #

i originally wanted to say anything under 5x7, but went with the smaller suggestion to keep it low cost for shipping. i'm in canada and they charge us up the rear for mailing packages. anything you feel is within the realm of 'pocket-size' and won't be a fortune in shipping is fine, i'm just concerned about the shipping because if you send out something hefty it will cost everyone that gets it higher amounts to resend it as well. mind you, if it is 5x7ish and only the 20 pages it shouldnt end up costly.

cynaemon 03/18/2013 #

Okay, Thanks. I will cut it down to a 5 X 6.

kitterslady18 03/20/2013 #

Is it alright to put your email address in the back and have someone email you to ask for your address to send the sketchbook once it is finished? I may not be in the same country as I am now by the time my sketchbook is finished.

barterartistmel 03/20/2013 #

i see no problem with that, just make sure to direct them to email you for the address once full.

joyceann888 03/21/2013 #

So, when you say 20 pages, you mean front and back, so that there would only need to be 10 actual sheets?

secretterrabite 03/22/2013 #

Can I ask what would happen if the person I send my journal to doesn't take part in the next round? They will have my book so it can't go round the other people...?

barterartistmel 03/22/2013 #

yes @joyceann888

@secretterrabite - i would hope that whomever recieves the journals participates in another round be it one i host or one of the journal swaps someone else hosts, and that if for any reason they choose not to that they would be so kind as to return it to the maker at that point so that person may resend it into circulation.

Miange 03/22/2013 #

So what if.... we do the journal, send it to our assigned partner and the partner sends it back to the owner. Then, next go around you post, send that same journal out to the next group who is participating, etc etc.? Just a thought. :) I have my journal ready, lol.

barterartistmel 03/22/2013 #

That is fine with me as well. Direct one way or the other in the book where you leave your contact info.

sunshinegirl76 03/26/2013 #

Wow - I got TOTALLY screwed over by our local PO because the guy basically charged me DOUBLE for international rate because it wasn't super flat. I'm pretty sure it wasn't over 1/4 inch in thickness but at a measly 0.39 ounces, that bumped it up from $5 to $10. I really hope that my swap partner likes & appreciates what I sent and that this swap ends up being fun because right now I'm pretty frustrated about this :( :(

kitterslady18 03/27/2013 #

International is pretty expensive unfortunately. I'm sure your partner will appreciate it! That's the nature of international mail sadly.

Artistic 03/27/2013 #

A handmade booklet is en route to my partner in Canada. Enjoy!

wadesay 03/28/2013 #

finally done and sent mine! *fyuh :D

Miange 03/29/2013 #

@sunshinegirl76 - I paid 9.45 to send mine off. Mine went to Japan ;) I do understand your frustration.

cynaemon 03/30/2013 #

Journal is on its way to Switzerland

barterartistmel 04/ 3/2013 #

I am glad they are all on their way to their destinations. I am sorry to hear about postal cost frustrations. I figured that everyone would be trying to keep them as thin as possible for that reason, hence no direction to really jazz up the covers or fill them with bits that would thicken them. If anyone does not recieve one by the end of april please inbox both your partner and myself. thank you for participating. those of you that directed your partner to return your books instead of passing them along to someone else, please keep in touch with them regarding returning it.

sunshinegirl76 04/ 6/2013 #

I honestly just think that the guy at the post office did it wrong - he was a new guy, and I don't think it should've cost that much. I know international isn't cheap, but it wasn't going around the world either, just to Europe. Still, I do know postage in general has gone up and especially international. I try to make my swaps special by including a personal note and something fun for my swap partner based on their profile.
