This swap is for the Lai See envelopes (also known as red envelopes) that are traditionally given out to celebrate the Chinese New Year! Red is a color of good fortune and traditionally children and unmarried adults will get the envelopes with a little New Year's cash inside.

For this swap you will put items in the lai see envelope to help your partner ring in the Chinese New Year. This year is the Year of the Boar :3 The contents could be stickers, ATCs, crafting supplies, anything! Just try to gear it toward the New Year theme.

For this swap you will have 1 partner and the swap is international. No one with a rating below a 3.0 please! The swap will end a week before the New Year so everyone can get their envelopes in time to celebrate. For more information on the envelopes you can check out the Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lai_see). Happy New Year everyone!

There are lovely lovely Lai See envelopes at Sanrio right now for $1.50 for a pack of 8 - if you have a Sanrio shop locally I suggest you check them out!

I'm soo excited about this one! I have so many of these envelopes & have used them in swaps. Even though they are for Chinese New Year, it's fun to use them! Especially for my non-Chinese friends, to share with them the feeling one gets with lai see envelopes... you know? xD

I love them too (obviously) and I don't have many people to celebrate the New Year with around here (Florida) so I'm pretty excited!

:) Will there be a standard size for the red envelopes?

zombuki 01/11/2007 #

I'd say 3" x 4" would be a good standard size.

Do I have to use a Lai See envelope or could you say me, where to get it?

zombuki 01/27/2007 #

You can get them at import shops usually, or I'm sure you could make a small envelope out of red paper. Anyone else know where to get them?

Kathie, mailed your lai see today. 10 Feb 2007 Hope you like them. Let me know when you receive it.

I wanted to let my partners know that I will send their cards, there has been a family emergency that has delayed all of my swaps. I apologize and will get things out ASAP. I have also tried to contact everyone directly. Thank you for understanding!
